The Healthy Cookie: Unbaked is based on a blog called The Healthy Cookie that I kept during the period from August 2006 when I was first diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, and concluding in  June, 2008 upon beginning my practice as a nutritionist. This unedited journal chronicles my two-year adventure from sickness to a place I never could have imagined for myself- optimal health.  What is unique in this story is that it is not a reflection. I am not writing it now, looking back at what I went through and what I learned from the experience. Most of these words were written as I was living and learning and therefore my understandings of what was happening in my life becomes clearer as the challenges unfold. In putting this story together in this way, I have done my best to fill in the blanks on some of the lessons learned where, as so often happens, the understandings came later.

The Healthy Cookie: Unbaked is my story… So far.

Read excerpts:

This is a journey that goes from sickness through healing to vibrant health, based on journal entries, which were written as truthfully and as openly as I lived them.  This story may make you smile or it may make you cry. It may inspire you, motivate you, or empower you to take control of your own health. It will definitely cause you to look at your own life.

I have two intentions in sharing my story. The first is that it may help you, even just a little, to bring a little more sunshine and rainbows into your life before you are forced to encounter any great big storms. And secondly, I hope for you be as present as you can be, to create time to make a little love in the kitchen, cook up some goodness, and to live with kindness for yourself and those around you.

Praise for The Healthy Cookie: Unbaked

From Ashley at Dancing Through Life
Although I knew that this was Meghan’s philosophy, it was so nice to read and remember that I am not alone in this journey. There are other people out there looking for and encouraging others to seek alternative answers to their health concerns. The book also touched down on things unrelated to my disease that I need to be reminded of from time to time like living without regrets, the pitfalls of perfectionism as well as taking my own advice. Meghan’s story brought me comfort, laughs as well as tears and solidified my desire to study nutrition. It seems that everything is pointing me in that direction these days and this book was no exception.” More…

From Heather at Heather Eats Almond Butter

“I began reading The Healthy Cookie: Unbaked expecting a step-by-step guide to healing Crohn’s disease symptoms, but it is so much more.  Yes, eating a whole foods diet is important, but so is rest and living as stress-free as possible.  Slow down my friends.  Take an early morning walk or a long leisurely bike ride.  Seek out the sunshine and rainbows of life.  They may not always be visible, but we simply have to trust that they are waiting for us behind those grey clouds. Your mind and body will thank you. I highly recommend The Healthy Cookie: Unbaked to anyone that has been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and for anyone else hoping to live a life free from disease and illness.  I took so much away from Meghan’s story, but most importantly, I learned that I need to slow down and breathe… 2 vital things in life that I often forget to do. “The Healthy Cookie: Unbaked isn’t just for someone with Crohn’s. This book is for anyone who is finding themselves, or on a journey to health, or if you just like a good adventure. I finished her ebook in almost a day, I could not take my eyes off of the screen, I always wanted to know what was going to happen next. Meghan talks about acupuncture, nutrition, yoga, meditation and most importantly, BOYS! She was very candid and opened about who and what was going on in her life. The friendships she formed and the adventure she took, made me want to life my life with more color. I can not say enough great things about this ebook. Thanks you so much for sharing your story with us, Meghan!” More…

From Readers:

“You really hit some nerves for me.  I have been in a bad space all summer food wise… Reading about the body mind connection was really illuminating… I am full of good intentions, but am weak willed when it comes down to it.  OK… I fill the fridge with good veggies….and then let them rot while I grab something fast…. I am bad bad bad…. today I will TRY and shift over … Sorry for long confessional, but just wanted to let you know your book is making a difference….” E.G.

“I’m already on Part 2 of your story – WOW is this compelling!! And how funny, I first went to university for fashion as well… And I love what you said especially about how we can’t expect others to help – all the help in the world won’t matter if we don’t do something about it ourselves. Can’t wait to continue reading – thank you again for this incredible book and for sharing your story/journey”. V.G.

“I cannot stop reading your Healthy Cookie ebook.  Can’t put it down!” M.C.
