Everyone who spreads a little of my All Purpose Edible Body Butter on their hands, lips, cuticles, or face is always so excited by it- declaring it good enough to eat. I, of course, remind them that they can. That it actually is good enough to eat, meaning everything contained within it is 100% edible. Then I suggest they get an extra jar to keep in the boudoir. Everyone has a bit of a nervous giggle and then they get a second jar.

At my recent Edible Beauty Care workshop (next one, sad for you, isn’t until April), I decided to impress my guests by whipping up, on the spot, without first testing it, a warm smoothie latte that would, in fact, taste just the same as my Edible Body Butter, and using nearly identical ingredients.

Last week Meghan introduced the concept of Healthwashing, what it is and how we can avoid falling victim to its hold. Very useful information these days when we are bombarded with health claims pretty much everywhere we go and through every media outlet. I’ve also uncovered a few of my favourite (or not-so favourite) food-type items that have crazy un-food like ingredient lists. Speaking of un-food ingredient lists…Chef Boyardee anyone?

Eating whole foods and avoiding packaged yucky-town products is amazing but what about the stuff we put on our bodies? Even those products carry health claims too and let me tell you, there is nothing healthy about most conventional creams, lotions, and potions. Since it’s still the lovely summertime and we ladies like to keep things smooth in the leg department, I thought I would talk about a really weird product used for removal of unwanted hair – Nair.

That pic above is the closest up pic of me I could find that involves no make-up. This past Friday evening, following a raw food event at a local yoga studio, I headed down Queen Street to The Rivoli to meet a friend from high school who was in town for the weekend. For those of you not in Toronto, The Rivoli is mostly restaurant, part bar, has an upstairs pool lounge, and a back venue for concerts and shows. The bottom line is that it is not a bar bar- where the only thing I might be doing there is drinking my face off.

One of the challenges in our 21 Days To Health program is to eliminate and/or reduce the use of daily cosmetic or personal care products in favour of a safer, more natural ones. In my post last week, I asked the question about What Stinks In My Panty Hose where I question how I could still smell a perfume in a pair of tights, seven years later. An interesting discussion came up as the Question that day was about what product is the toughest to give up or change.

Going Au Naturelle is the recommendation for Day 9 of the 21 Days To Health Program and might just be one of the most important ones. I am sure, by now, you are familiar with my Natural Body Care book, or maybe have popped in on my Natural Body Care workshop. It is one thing to change up your diet to one that is cleaner and less processed, but we also need to think about what is going on our body.

Are you getting it yet? That everything we put on skin is edible (and delicious are that!)

Then it comes to chocolate. Seriously. What do women crave most in the world? Chocolate. Chocolatey choclate choclate. As I was doing research and prepping for my Brand Shiny New Natural Body Care Tutorial, I came upon an amazing chocolate face mask recipe. When I read through it, I didn’t think face mask, I thought fudgetasticness! As if someone’s first inclination when they see a recipe with cocoa powder and raw organic honey is – ‘hmmm. yep- i want to put that on my face’. Nope. I think my taste buds would like this one more.

I spent hours of time researching, testing recipes, researching more, testing more recipes and seriously freaking myself out with what I was learning and am now bursting at the seams to offer you the important nuggets.

Is it possible that the products we are using on our body might be causing more harm to our long term health than what we are eating? Oh YES I say YES.

This is scary to me personally because, despite my hip hip hoorah for whole, unprocessed foods, I have wicked curly frizz ball hair and so there lies a bottle of L’Oreal’s Curl Enhancer. I went through three bottles when I was living in St. Lucia for three months. There very few contraband things kicking around my cosmetic cabinet at this point, but wow I was a product whore (can I say whore?). In no particular order these are the things I regret most from my past
