I stopped eating dairy 4 years ago. If you asked me 5 years ago I would have said that would never happen. I thought vegans were a little too out there for my liking and I LOVED my dairy in whatever form it came. That all changed when I discovered the wonders of almond milk. Once I had my hot little hands on this amazingly smooth, creamy, delish dairy substitute I was hooked and I knew I could kiss dairy goodbye. For as long as I can remember dairy hasn’t left me feeling top notch. I am sure you can imagine what happens to your insides and outsides when a food doesn’t agree with you and yet you keep on eating it. It wasn’t until I eliminated dairy that I realized how bad it had been making me feel.

Are You Ready For Health?
You are! You are for sure!!!
We all know that creating a super powered community around healthy living is the surest way to:
1. Make it stick
2. Make it fun
3. Make us not feel like total and complete social outcasts.
This is why the “group” component of my group coached programs, using my eBooks as a guide to follow, is so flippin’ fun and equally important, so deliciously effective and sustainable.
I spent New Year’s Day at a smoothie party where we feasted on collard wraps and super smoothies and elixirs. It was awesome, especially after a night known for indulgence and boozing, to share a lazy afternoon with like minded peeps. It is rather insane that it is more socially acceptable to smoke cigarettes than drink raw chocolate drinks. It is strange that we feel people need convincing to ‘eat healthy’, which seems like it should be the only way people should want to eat, or that being the ‘healthy one’ becomes the hindrance when friends and family are putting together a menu for a meal.

Guest Post from Erin Budd. I joined a CSA this year, and so I picked up farm fresh fruits and vegetables of the season once a week right by my house. One nice thing about it is that it forces me to try new things that I would never think to purchase otherwise.

This is the fourth or maybe fifth time I have done this cleanse and everytime I miss the same thing. Crunching! I miss chewing. The toughest is when I used to try out the eight or ten day juice fasts and then even when you start eating food, you have to ease yourself back on to the solids. I don’t know about you, but in the last three days, what I found the toughest on the Green Smoothie Cleanse was putting all these fresh, organic veggies into the blender without being able to crunch their goodness.

As we move into Green Smoothie mode, we’re probably beginning to realize that when on the cleanse, there isn’t much difference between what we eat for breakfast compared to what we eat for dinner. Actually, in many cultures, there is no difference. Whoever decided that a bagel and orange juice was breakfast, well, he didn’t do us any favours.

It is medicine season! Seriously. Now I don’t mean that it is time to line up at the doctor’s office for vaccines or prescriptions or any of that nonsense stuff. Dear me no. I am talking about all the goodies popping up from the earth, wild for the most part, that just might serve to heal our woes.

When was the last time you took the time to smell the flowers? It is very easy to get caught up in all the details of healthy living- you know the whole balanced meal, daily exercise, pop the supplements thing. I’ll admit that I often fall victim to the day-to-day healthy living practices thing and fail to follow along with many of the emotional health stuff. The fun, if you will. The playing.

Here she be. My super healing summer soup made with 95% local ingredients! I don’t care how hot it is, second only to a smoothie, there is nothing easier to make than a big pot of soup. I ate this for every meal for a good day and a half.

While I was up at my cottage in early July, when it was a gazillion degrees outside, I decided it was the perfect conditions for a soup. Why? Because that day I had harvested a very special ingredient from the nearby woods which makes a soup extra powered healthy.

Josh and I have a super nerdy nutritionist game that we play. It goes like this:
Josh: “Hey Megs, Would you like a cup of tea”.
Meghan: “ I sure would!”
J: “What kind?”
M: “You’ll do the right thing”.

I love my Vitamix. In fact, I don’t know anyone who owns one who doesn’t love it. Not a day goes by that I don’t hear the sweet whirring of the greatest room-mate I may ever have. Now, because I love my Vitamix so much, and because I love it so much I got my mother to get one and at long last got my man to pick one up too, I wanted you to have one also.

This was my fast food dinner tonight. Thought I would share because it was so awesome and so easy. So creamy and also so healthy. Past is a real treat for me- but I will only eat it when the vegetables over-rule the pasta by at least 3 to 1.
I had been thinking about this pasta dish for a while but it finally cooled off enough outside for me to turn my over on. This was creamy and amazing. And since I’m talking fast food here- I’ll keep this short and get straight to the cream-free creamy fettuccine alfredo. Prep time: 10 mins. Cook time, about 8 mins. Dinner in under 20 minutes! That’s fast food to me.

For someone who lives on fast food and beer, a Green Smoothie Cleanse would probably be torturous… for the first time. It might still be rough the second and third time too. But things would start to change. That garbage food would stop tasting very good. He might even start to notice how his energy levels are affected when he eats whole food versus unprocessed food. He might notice his skin look clearer, his eyes get brighter, his bathroom habits become more… um… regular. He might wake-up before noon and (gasp) want to be active!

As generally healthy eating peeps (I give you the benefit of the doubt because you’re reading me), we are freaking ridiconculously crazified for kale chips. We really are.
We are all over these raw treats. Kale chips are awesome and we love the idea of drinking fresh veggie juices everyday and then taking all that pulp to make the most amazing raw crackers. Then, in our minds, we see ourselves munching on our home grown sprouts, while our liver sings us love songs and our intestines wave their celebratory fibre flags of victory.

Summer life is in full swing and sometimes that can be none-too-much fun for those of us who prefer to avoid meat off a grill. Also not too fun for those of us who also prefer to avoid weird mystery ‘meat’ veggie burgers. Now… how about a veggie burger made with actual vegetables? There’s something new and fun!
