Parsley Hummus with Kale Chips

Can we agree that it is a known fact that every time we go to the store, we tend to buy the same things each time- our staple goods? Often these are things that we know we could make but for whatever reason, over and over again, we fall into the habit of just buying it. No more mis amigos/amigas. We are gonna start doing it from scratch, or at least those of you who make it to Day 20 of the 21 Days To Health challenge.

Are You Ready For Health?

You are! You are for sure!!!

We all know that creating a super powered community around healthy living is the surest way to:

1. Make it stick
2. Make it fun
3. Make us not feel like total and complete social outcasts.

This is why the “group” component of my group coached programs, using my eBooks as a guide to follow, is so flippin’ fun and equally important, so deliciously effective and sustainable.

I spent New Year’s Day at a smoothie party where we feasted on collard wraps and super smoothies and elixirs. It was awesome, especially after a night known for indulgence and boozing, to share a lazy afternoon with like minded peeps. It is rather insane that it is more socially acceptable to smoke cigarettes than drink raw chocolate drinks. It is strange that we feel people need convincing to ‘eat healthy’, which seems like it should be the only way people should want to eat, or that being the ‘healthy one’ becomes the hindrance when friends and family are putting together a menu for a meal.

Who Pea’d In My Smoothie?

You know what I love? Right, that’s like answering do you know how many blenders went whirring this morning to make all of you breakfast.

Fast Food Fettuccini

This was my fast food dinner tonight. Thought I would share because it was so awesome and so easy. So creamy and also so healthy. Past is a real treat for me- but I will only eat it when the vegetables over-rule the pasta by at least 3 to 1.

I had been thinking about this pasta dish for a while but it finally cooled off enough outside for me to turn my over on. This was creamy and amazing. And since I’m talking fast food here- I’ll keep this short and get straight to the cream-free creamy fettuccine alfredo. Prep time: 10 mins. Cook time, about 8 mins. Dinner in under 20 minutes! That’s fast food to me.

I made dinner for my housemates last night – who aren’t raw vegans – and they adored the recipes, inspired from the French countryside. I looked through Julia Child’s classic French cookbook and modified recipes – for example, by using healthy raw fats instead of butter (i.e. macadamia nuts), and eliminating the heating process. Et voila.

Contrary to popular belief, I am not a strict vegan. As my friend Elana, who was once macrobiotic and is now indulging in raw cheeses and fish says, “labels are for tin cans”. I agree. But I have my limits when it comes to eating foods that once had eyes.

Drinking My Sunscreen

I was not at all surprised a few weeks back when I wrote about my preferred sunscreen, that there were many extreme opinions on the matter. Actually, most opinions, I think were drastically against me on this and I am a-okay with that. I don’t mind the aggression really, better than indifference if you ask me.

A Summer In Paris

There are two ways that I come up with recipes.
1. I am bored and want to play and since my home is really a giant kitchen, that is where a lot of playing happens.
2. I bought something thinking I would do something with it, it moves towards the land of rotten and I get desperate and start searching for something to do with it.

As Sweet As A Cupcake

Is there really anything better than cake for breakfast? Not too long ago, I was hosting a private cooking class for a deliciously delightful family. I had sent over the proposed menu for the meal, and received a reply back requesting we have muffins for dessert.

Recently I biked home with a cabbage hanging from my handle bars (don’t try this at home). I participated in this risky behavior because I knew the reward would be well worth it……a bundle of cruciferous healthful goodness.

So what’s your favourite snotty food? An awful question to be sure but you know I go crazy for Okra and a chunk of aloe in my morning smoothie makes everything run, well, smoothly. It’s the slime factor. Ever blend up chia seeds? How about simmer some flax seed tea or even soak flax seeds overnight to make a raw tortilla? How about slippery elm lozenges for a sore throat? The snotty foods abound!

I make no secret or excuses about my love for the sunshine. The other night over dinner, my gentleman caller inquired as to what I would be called if I weren’t called Meghan. Despite people’s tendency to call me Rachel when they don’t know my name (I think it’s the Jewess thing), I would go with Sunshine. I fear for the future of my unconceived children.

The point being I love the sun and sun bathing and it would take a massive hole in the ozone directly above me and being buck-naked at high noon for me to put any kind of sunblock on. Has sunscreen helped reduce rates of skin cancer? Nopers. Is it nearly impossible to find a safe rated sunscreen? It sure is. This leads me to believe it’s best to avoid using it as much as possible. Now, if you are in a situation where you will be exposed to a load of rays mid-afternoon, cover up and be sensible. But think about these things:
