There are many snacks out there that claim to be healthy, but in reality they’re not as virtuous as they seem. What’s a health-conscious snacker to do? Eat roasted chickpeas, of course! These delicious nibblies are crunchy, flavourful and full of beneficial nutrients.

It all started with this gorgalicious ceramic dish with a lid that I picked up at my absolute favourite-if-it-didin’t-exist-I’d-be-naked-store Anthropologie. I saw it and immediately thought, TAGINE central. I don’t know why. Just something about being able to open that lid, have the steam burst out and my getting to announce a fine tah-dah to my dining companion.
The thing is, I am pretty sure I have never actually had a tagine before that I liked. They most often had lamb in them and I am just not that in to eating laaa-aaaa-aaamb. But when fall rolls in, something in the abundance of root veggies at the market, combined with my desire to eat cozy food and not have to work that hard for it, made this one bought adventure a must.

Well didn’t we have just the most fun ever at last weekend’s Vegetarian Food Festival? Didn’t we? How can you not have fun when there are grown men running around dressed as giant peas?
I was busy sharing my wares at my booth.
I was most excited about how excited everyone was over our brand new creed, irish moss, tote bags, and sleeping masks (with fabric I designed myself, I might add!)

When some people don’t want to consume hot dogs (and meat in general for that matter), they often turn to the vegetarian options. And what might these be? Veggie dogs! There are also veggie burgers, veggie deli meat, veggie turkey, veggie ground beef, veggie chicken pieces and the list goes on and on. From the looks of it, it seems that vegetarians have no problem replacing meat since there are so many options readily available for them. They can have some faux bacon for breakfast, followed by a mock salami sandwich for lunch, rounding things off with a chicken-less “chicken” stir fry for dinner. Oh, and don’t forget about soy pudding for dessert!
How easy was that? By consuming these fake meat items, vegans and vegetarians can pick up right where they left off with the real stuff. Can you tell yet that I’m joking?

I have a kitchen table! Like my own. In my own home. It’s nice I tell you, it’s nice. After three years of working where I live and living where I work, I have my own little apartment right nearby.
That kitchen table, by the way, was the very same table I had in my very first apartment twelve years ago. It has been in my parents garage since 2003 and we cleaned it up and made it good as new. Want to know the best part about taking this table and now using it again? I don’t have to hear my mom bla, bla, bla at me about storing it in their garage anymore.

What fun was had on The Marilyn Denis Show with this segment all about avocados. The staff of the show were going nuts for this segment, all calling dibs on the goods I was making. One of the bestest parts for me about doing this segment is that I strategized my make-up!

What fun, what fun! It is May which means farmer’s markets are popping up all over the place! Last week I shared my amazing recipe for asparagus pesto and I ate that up so fast that I had to go back to the market. What did I buy on this trip? A giant bag of weeds!!! Wildly grown and foraged food that I likely spent the majority of my life trampling over.

What do Italy, Mozambique, Cuba, Fiji, Australia, Jordan, Hong Kong, St. Lucia, Senegal, France, Jamaica, Swaziland, Portugal, Israel and Belize have in common? Well, these are among the many countries I have had the absolute privilege and honour of visiting and dining in. The greatest things I love about travelling is falling in love… sometimes with places, sometimes with men, and most often with food!

Oh lovers. That pic above starts our Friday faves off right as it is my fave pic of the week. This past Sunday marked a milestone day over here at The Love In The Kitchen Academy. Why? Because for the first time ever, I had the lovely luxury of being a guest at a class in my very own school!
Josh Gitalis, healer of all the world, was my first ever guest instructor and he instructed the goji berries out of his Healing Elixirs and Herbal Medicine workshop. That workshop sold out mighty quick and we even had 4 people on a waiting list should someone cancel! We have added a new date for April 16th- so best to get yourself signed up if you are interested.
Now what is glowing in that yellow elixir in the photo? Well my loves, that secret is held between Josh, myself, Jen, one of our fabulous interns, Tara, and the 12 lucky peeps who attended. Mwahahaha!

I had a jolly ‘ole lover of a time travelling the isel of St. Lucia and can’t wait to show off some of my pics to you tomorrow. But the one thing I missed most was my kitchen. I missed having access to my clean, organized, pink kitchen and all the familiar tastes that go along with it. I was chomping at the bit, as they say, to get back into it and get cooking.

I know, I know… you want to get your sticky fingers all over my nuts. How could I blame you really. They are the best tasting nuts ever. The very best. What’s super cool about this is that you don’t even need to be a nut lover to enjoy this candied delight. Nut allergies in your homestead? Do this with a mix of seeds. Same, same lovers. Same, same.
