Over the last few weeks, I have been increasingly frustrated by things I’ve been hearing. The hydrogenated, high fructose corns syrup icing on the refined corn and high fructose corn syrup cake was when I was informed that deep fried Twinkies were served at the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation fundraiser. It is hard for me to stay rosey and smiley and just let that go. I am astounded by the effort and money people will throw at such organizations, doing “research” to find “cures”, when I am the research and the cure is simply- to heal and repair.

You know I love smoothies. I love smoothies to bits. They are my fave go-to fast food meals and I always feel fantastic after. This however wasn’t always the case. I was sick for several years with digestive challenges and during this time, smoothies weren’t always my friend.

Recently I biked home with a cabbage hanging from my handle bars (don’t try this at home). I participated in this risky behavior because I knew the reward would be well worth it……a bundle of cruciferous healthful goodness.

So what’s your favourite snotty food? An awful question to be sure but you know I go crazy for Okra and a chunk of aloe in my morning smoothie makes everything run, well, smoothly. It’s the slime factor. Ever blend up chia seeds? How about simmer some flax seed tea or even soak flax seeds overnight to make a raw tortilla? How about slippery elm lozenges for a sore throat? The snotty foods abound!

Isn’t it nice to blame others? Takes the onus off us for certain. As more and more people around the world are affected by digestive conditions and other health conditions, I am very often asked for tips and afvice. Obviously this is not something I can offer in an email or even in this blog post, as everyone’s body’s and history’s and emotions are unique. There is one, tip however, I can offer that is universally affective: Take Responsibility. Own your disease.
