There are all kinds of rules that go along with celebrating Passover- what we can and can’t eat, what we should and shouldn’t eat and all that jazz. I was never one to play by the rules and one thing Passover can no longer take away from me is my chocolate. See- the chocolate deprivation association with Passover dates back about 28 or so years. As wee little kiddlet, living in Winnipeg, Passover was a serious affair. With my grandma being one of 7 siblings- the offspring of that was massive. By the age of 10, our Passover dinners numbered in the 80s and we held them in one of the Banquet rooms at the Westin Hotel- passing around a microphone to read from the book and sing our songs.

Friends and lovers. It’s that sweet, sweet time again.
That time where my dad comes over to the kitchen, we paint cat whiskers on our face as we dress up as Halloween Cats.
In the past, you have seen us as Cat Burglars, Cool Cats, and Jungle Cats. This year we went for a Mexican Cat theme makes almost no sense at all but since my dad and I have this ability to take an idea and run with it- we ran and no one caught up with us to tell us it made no sense. In fact, even my dad and I didn’t notice that it made no sense until we actually started filming- wondering what cats had to do with Mexico and what Mexico or cats had to do with brownies or pumpkin. Love us simply for our stream of consciousness and creativity.

Oh my love sweet lovers. I can only go so long without sharing some sweet, sweet chocolate love.
I created this gem for the attendees at my Raw Food Power workshop a couple weeks ago. I always have a challenge when I do the same workshops over and over again.

The time has come my fine feathered chocolate warriors. All these days and weeks go by and I make chocolate treats and you comment on how amazing they look. And they do. Oh yes, they do. But have you tasted them yet?
I am all about empowerment. And so I set out to make this video to empower you to start making your chocolates!
Now if I were to start a new blog (as if!)… but if I were, I would call it “And That’s Health Food”. On this imaginary new blog, I would just make chocolate. All kinds of chocolate. Chocolate smoothies, chocolate pudding, chocolate covered kale chips (wait… better write that one down), and chocolate treats. Chocolate treats like the ones I have listed below because if you think about it, it’s sort of everything that I put into my breakfast smoothie just in a different form.

I swear to my mismatched stripey socks that if I see another root vegetable recipe or some creative concoction of squash I am going to throw my spatula out the window and light my aprons on fire. I done with winter cooking. Done I say. DONE! Are you listening???
It is time to bring in some spring. I am ready for the first harvests. I want some new kale, I want some wild leeks, I want Spring earth mother lovers. Spring.
This is where my man would look at me and say, “Why stress over what you can’t change”. Or even more annoying, when I am pouting like a school girl who’s knee highs won’t stay up, he’ll say “Use this as an exercise”. Well I won’t goodness darnnit. I won’t.
So to soothe my soul because the boob-like shape of buttrnut squash no longer amuses me the way it did when it was fresh and new back in the fall, I decided to make one last ditch ever to find some love in my heart for this cancer fighting, immune boosting, fibre-tastic fruit that everyone thinks is a vegetable and turn it into something we all know and love.

Holy cannolley doodle! This recipe here officially marks the second Monday in a row where I have thrown a little rum into the mix. I think this nutritionista spent a little to much time sunning and funning it up in St. Lucia. But you know what? You know me better than to think I play by any rules and a little rum mixed into chocolate once in a while, is super-cali-fantastica-liciousness. So take a deep breath and get your ‘alcohol is the devil’ evil nutrition eye outta, here!
The thing about this chocolate covered cup-o-love is that there isn’t much rum and it is the most decadent piece of brilliance I have come up with in ages. And I write this as I look at this giant bottle of rum, staring me in the face. I suppose it may be time that I explain why I even have the boozey booze kicking around this parts given that hard liquor isn’t really my cup of tea (though a little Nourishtea minty igloo- that be peppermint- with a little dabble of rum may just be amazing).

Everyone loves home baked cookies. And they really don’t take much time at all.
You mix the dry.
Chop a little chocolate. This was Green and Blacks dark chocolate with crystallized ginger in it.
Throw a couple blobs of cookie dough on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
And just like that, fresh home baked cookies are served.

For those of your embarking on the 21 Days To Health program this Saturday with me, you have noticed that little pesky change being recommended on Day 15, where we say Nope To The Scary White Powder. You might be thinking that no white flour and no white sugar means no fun sweet treats in the kitchen. Let these brownies be exhibit A. And let this be your persuasion:

Well, you knew chocolate was coming. This was a sweet a made for my sweet last Valentine’s day. More people have told me they made this than any other recipe. No surprise really- who doesn’t love a mix of salty nuttiness and chocolate? These really are amazing and if you have yet to try them, you must!

You can still have your goodies while on a low glycemic lifestyle. Yes you can.
See, when we want to keep things low on the glycemic scale, we can’t just look at the individual food but also how it is being combined. We can combine higher glycemic index foods, like honey for example, with foods that are right in healthy fats, protein and fibre. This means that even though honey may be high, all the other things being partnered up with it could be low, and thus bringing down the whole load of the treat, making it a-okay!

This is health food. Don’t believe me? Well it’s true. I made these for my sister-in-law last week as she was celebrating her birthday. It was her first birthday as a momma and as all new mommas know, they need all the help they can get, especially if it comes wrapped in choc0late. Amazingness. I wanted to give the momma of my niece all the best things. I was also playing around with ways to sneak more bee pollen into my diet. Wrap it in chocolate and I’ll eat it.

Is it true that some food are aphrodisiacs, that eating them makes us feel hottter to trotter and wanting to get’er on? Yes. Oh, baby yes! Yes there are and it’s not by any illusionary, dreamy thing. There are actually biological and physiological reasons behind the rumours that make perfect sense.
