Ron Telpner was diagnosed with prostate cancer in September of 2010. Taking the “Active Surveillance” approach, he has changed his lifestyle to one he believed would help build his health. Instead of fighting cancer, he is healing cancer, and in the process healing his whole life. This interview was the best I have ever done, likely because it really means the most. Cooked vegetables do not make me gag, contrary to the title of this post. Though they used to. I actually used to kind of dislike all vegetables. I had a special dislike for cooked ones. Sadie Barr, a recent college graduate decided to ask a question that, for some reason, had yet to be explored: how does our metabolism respond to processed foods as compared to whole foods. The discovery, though not totally surprising, was dramatic. He research shows, without a doubt, that eating whole foods encourages thermogenesis, meaning an in increased metabolic rate, as compared to processed foods. Huh? What I mean is that processed foods are not just rich in empty calories, but they are rich in empty calories that encourage our metabolism to slow down and thus are contributing to weight gain and associated diseases.
