Welcome to The 3-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse

First Things First

For those of you who are new to my blog, allow me to introduce myself. The long story is here, and professional information here, but in short, I am a fully certified holistic nutritionist and natural nutrition coach. So basically, I have the education and experience to back up what I’m saying and to professionally coach you through this.

On this page, you will find links to all posts relating to this cleanse as well as the opportunity to sign up as full participant and download the 79+ page e-tutorial.

The Basics There is no single cleanse or cleansing product that is just right for everyone. I do believe, however, that this here 3-day green smoothie cleanse is very balanced, very gentle and the absolute best way to ease yourself into a cleansing practice whether you are new to cleanses or fasts, have been doing them for years, or are overcoming or working on a health challenge. Only benefit can come from a cleanseing regime that prodivdes amazingly high nutrient density and sufficient caloric intake in a highly absorbable and easily digestible manner requiring minimal digestive energy.

What Is a Green Smoothie Cleanse? For three days, all of your food intake will be in the form of a green smoothie. Simple simple. You will have a green smoothie for breakfast, one for lunch and one for dinner. If you get hungry, you might have one for a mid-morning or afternoon snack. If you are in a situation where you can’t make a smoothie, than a pureed veggie soup would be acceptable but we are aiming for raw smoothies. In between smoothies you can supplement with herbal cleansing teas, water, water with lemon, and coconut water if you like. Think of all the free time you’ll have!

Why Smoothies and not Juice? The difference between a smoothie and juice is that juice has the fibre removed, where as a smoothie has the fibre left in. This means that in this cleanse you won’t necessarily experience the same hunger as you would with a juice cleanse and may also not experience the same lightheadedness, headaches or nausea that can come from more extreme juice or water fasts and cleanses.

Also- quality juicers are expensive and most people have blenders or access to a blender so it makes this cleanse more accessibly and viable to more people. All about inclusion!

Why Three Days
As this is our first cleanse together, I wanted to offer something that was realistic and manageable. Typically with cleanses, day 3 is the hardest. Depending on your lifestyle and constituion, you may find that after three days you want to keep going. Power to you! Three days, however is a realistic amount of time to request committment and is a great introduction to the practice of cleansing. And likely just enough time that may feel the energized floaty feeling that comes from being crisp and clean.

I received my tutorial last night. Wow! What an excellent resource. The time and thought you put into this is certainly worth the money, and as hubby is peeking at the tutorial, I have the feeling we’re going to have another participant. Didn’t feel right letting him tag along for the ride without you getting something for your effort. Laurie

Meghan – seriously your tutorial was WONDERFUL!! Wow, it was definitely worth every penny and MORE! I hope you have plans on writing a book!!  Carrie

This tutorial package you provided is amazing!  It took me awhile to get through it, but it’s so helpful–especially because you provided a shopping list!!  Thank you so much. Liz

This sounds wonderful–thanks for taking care of all these details!  Fabulous info in there, too–I think you did an amazing job on the tutorial and really thought of everything! Ricki

YOU, my dear, are the start of my healing and I know that I can do this together with your help!  As nutritionists we may already know what to do but sometimes motivation and someone who cares is what is needed!  My heart and soul thanks you, not to mention my belly will too soon!  Im so excited!!!! JZ

I’ve heard that cleanses are good but had never found such detailed information on why. I’m hoping that by doing this it will get some of the allergy gunk out of my body and prep it for a more natural approach to being better. Julia

I’m looking forward to the green smoothie cleanse. Thanks for a fantastic tutorial. The daily schedule is my favorite part-it really puts it all together for me. Kathy

I think what you’re doing is terrific and I just wanted to contribute to show my appreciation!
Thanks for the inspiration and for sharing all this info with the world!!! Sarah

I love your blog and info! I will be doing the smoothie cleanse. I’ve done juicing cleanses and they were too harsh for my system, so I’m very excited to do the green smoothie one. Thanks for all the great advice! Kiliee

I am so inspired by your blog and your story. I have been wanting to do a cleanse and this seems like something I could manage.

Thank you for continuing to inspire….

  2. Leesie says:

    Meghan,
I have a question already. Is this safe for someone who is on (any type of) medication, like for me who is slowly weaning off now what is a very low dose of antidepressant? I think this cleanse would be a smart way for me to begin a healthy weight loss program, too. I do eat healthy and make sure I get adequate amounts of fibre in my diet. My twin brother and I are going to be starting a raised bed garden this year – it’s in the works – sort of our own Victory Garden! We are even growing asparagus like my dad did. Thanks for any advice you can offer here. Much appreciated -
    Leesie

  3. Leesie says:

Makes sense. I guess for myself I’m thinking more along the lines of the detox part of it. I hear you can feel the affects of going through a detox. Surely, I do feel it would be a very good thing for me to participate in.

I have incorporated chia seeds, acai supplements, vitamin D into my daily regimen ;o) I love flax seeds though.

    Thanks Meghan ;o)

  4. Sarah says:

Always inspiring us to be healthier! Thanks Meghan! I’ve never done a cleanse before but I’m keen to join you on this one with your coaching. I’ll look out for the info to come and I’ll be sure to spread the word!

  5. Leesie says:

    Nice. Gotcha. Thank you!

  6. Leesie says:

BTW, I ordered my first tee shirt. Can’t wait to get it. I got the Flirt with a Farmer one. Should be fun to wear to my local town’s farmer’s market starting up in May.

  7. Jamie says:

I am very keen. Two questions: 1) As a full-time Pilates instructor, I use a lot of fuel. Will the green cleanse provide me with enough energy? 2) I have a big trip at the end of April, will the green cleanse keep my immune system strong so I’m healthy for my vacation?
    Thanks.
    Looking forward to it!

  8. Liz says:

    I’m definitely in!
Is it weird that I’m looking forward to this?

  11. Mel says:

Hey Meghan. I’m a friend of Lizzie’s – and found your cleanse via her blog. This sounds great! I’ve been doing an “eat-clean” type diet for a couple months and feel great but this past week or two I seem to be just following the “eat” portion and ignoring the “clean”. I think something like this will help put me get back on track. Looking forward to getting more info!

  12. Tinker says:

Hi Meghan – count me in! I like doing a smoothie cleanse every few months, and if it’s green that’s even better!

  13. Sarah says:

Hey Meghan – So i’ve been really excited about the idea of this cleanse and I’ve been mentioning it to a lot of people, but when they ask me WHY they should do a cleanse I have a hard time formulating a good argument other than: “it’ll be good for you,” “it’s good to give your digestive system a break.”
So I’ll throw the question back to you: Why should we be doing a cleanse? What are the benefits? And how often should you do them?

I’ll make sure to include your answer in the email I’ll be sending out to friends.

    Thanks!

    S

  14. Ashley says:

    Meghan,

I am a bit underweight but think the cleanse sounds great. Is there any way to still partake in the smoothie madness while eating a bit extra to keep weight up? Or would this make the cleanse pointless? Thanks :) .

  15. Ashley says:

In that case, count me in!

  16. Julia says:

I’ve wanted to do a cleanse for a long time but all the ones I had seen before looked a little scary, nothing but juice or mixes with ingredients I couldn’t pronounce, so I’m very excited to do this one. And I will happily write about it on my green living blog!

  17. jeph says:

Hello found out about this via the national post article i came across on twitter. I am very intrigued about the green-cleanse adventure! I dont blog but i will definitely tweet the experience via twitter!

  18. Jeanie says:

Hi Meghan, count me in! I discovered your blog last week and have been following it ever since. I love your informative posts and fun, positive vibe! I have never, ever been on any kind of non-solid food diet before so I do feel a bit worried how I will react but I will give it a go. The little I know about raw food and the little I have incorporated into my daily life has made such a difference. I have so much more mental clarity–it’s amazing. So I am definitely looking forward to this… can’t wait! :)

  19. Nancy Baker says:

I recently did a cleanse. Master cleanse and juiceing. I have done a green cleanse with green smoothie. They both work great. Followed up with a good sweat and a colonics.
Meagan, Love you web site. I would love for my customers to come to your site for info. I support you. Awesome job.

  20. Meir says:

  22. Mack says:

  23. I have now completed the contemplation stage. Count me in! And I will post http://meghantelpnerblog.com/green-cleanse/ wherever I can.

  29. Carrie says:

    Meghan,
Do the smoothies have to be made fresh? I work in the Operating room and do not have access to a blender there. Can I not make 2 in the morning and take one for lunch?

  30. Nancy says:

I noticed my niece Andrea was looking into this and thought I would as well. My question is tho, I am not much of a vegetable eater and am afraid that I would not be able to swallow the smoothie. What types of veggies would be in them (not asking for recipes, just an idea of what it is so I know if I can do it)?

  31. Su says:

  35. SaRad says:

    Hi Meghan:
YOur story is inspiring. I am dealing with a flare of Ulcerative Colitis right now and was referred to your blog by a friend. I am interested in your Green Smoothie cleanse, but I have been told in the past that during a flare I should avoid high-fiber content food….. aren’t green smoothies full of fiber, and won’t they irritate my inflamed intestinal wall?

  36. Hi Meghan –
My travel schedule falls right in the middle of your cleanse, so I won’t be able to participate, sadly. However, I was wondering whether I could pay the $10 and enjoy the written info and then join the next cleanse as a participant?
    I know, it’s a little different, but thought I’d give it a shot :)
Hope to see you across the pond!

  37. SaRad says:

Thanks, Meghan. I have some chicken broth already made and did a one day fast with it, but didn’t feel able to keep it up after that. I think it did help to calm my digestive system down. Still exploring all you site has to offer. Do you do individual consults?

  38. Meir says:

Just sent out an email to all my friends. Hope Im not to late.

  39. Julia says:

I did however do all the shopping. I forgot to buy Psyllium Husk. Is it very important. Where can I buy it on a Sunday?
    Thanks for everything

  41. I am actually loving this cleanse. I have been discovering raw foods and incorporating them more into my diet over the past 6 months, but this is the first time I did continuous days with it. Your tutorial is first rate.

  43. Hi Meghan,

I did your Green Smoothie cleanse and it was a great energy booster and metabolic taste changer for me.

However, I wanted to know if you had an alternate vegetable juice recipe that was high in nutrients but low in sugar-something I could add to my regimine when I am trying to cut down on calories?

  67. I see absolutely no reason why this would be a challenge for anyone on, or going off meds. All you are doing is eating three to five salads a day that have been whirred through a blender. For anyone dealing with depression, I would suggest adding in some flax oil to smoothie (you won’t taste it) as the essential fatty acids are amazing at supporting the nervous system and have been associated with helping relieve depression and anxiety

  68. It is not so much of a detox as it is a rest for the digestive system. Stuff will get stirred around but not in any extreme way. Of course- go with your instinct on this though.

  69. Jamie- Yes! You will definitely have enough fuel and if you choose to be a full participant, you will receive additional energy and protein options to add in to your smoothie to ensure you are getting sufficient fats and protein. You will also be given tips on keeping blood sugar balanced. As for your immune system- what could be better for your body than incredibly nutrient dense foods in a highly absorbable form!

  70. I love your enthusiasm Liz!

  71. I love that you are all so excited about this!

Sarah- the answer to that very question will be coming in the next couple of days :)
LittleM, Mel, Tinker- So happy you’ll be joining the cleansing party.
Wendy- I don’t care what time it was! Your immediate reaction was to do it. Stay with that! Let’s take this cleanse overseas. An international group cleansing. I love it.

  72. Ashley- I will get into options to add to your smoothie in a couple days. But to give you something to consider: if you are underweight, you could always add more oils and proteins to your smoothies in the forms of almond butter, coconut oil or flax oil. You could supplement with pureed soups that contain lentils for example.

  73. You can totally make two in the morning and take one for lunch. Directions on packing for work will be outlined in the tutorial- but in short- it’s a good idea to have them in a cooler bag or in a fridge. Also- you may want to avoid using things like flax seeds in them as these absorb liquid so by lunch they would be pretty glumpy.

  74. Nancy- It all depends how much you want to do it! Many people have an amazing capacity to ingest things that might taste terrible because they know how good it is for them, others find food delicious for this very same reason. The veggies will be green and leafy and the fruits sweet and delicious. Only one way to find out if you’d be able to swallow it down… try it!

  75. Josie and Gwyn- I am so excited to have you both take part!

Carrie- No need to be a veggie to like veggies :)

  76. Gabriela: Of course you can! Once I receive your payment I will have the tutorial sent over to you.

SaRad: The Green Smoothies are very high in fiber. If you would like to participate with the group energy to support you, I would recommend a broth fast with quality homemade chicken broth. This is an amazing anti-inflammatory and an incredible way to get high doses of nutrient- fats, proteins and carbs without needing to tax your digestive system. It wouldn’t necessarily have the same cleansing benefits but you would give your digestive system and entire digestive tract a rest and a chance to heal and repair. Check out my soup recipe here: http://meghantelpnerblog.com/2008/12/19/i-chicken-soup/

  77. Julia- Not at all. This will be really great for as it will be so alkalinzing. Some anti-inflammatory foods you could add in would be turmeric and use lots and lots of ginger and cayenne (if you can handle). The omega 3 fats in flax oil are also anti-inflammatory. I did not include an nightshade vegetables (ones that can promote inflammation including tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, or eggplant) in any of the food lists.

  78. The conference call is available here: http://meghantelpnerblog.com/green-cleanse/smoothie-cleanse-kick-off-call/

Psyllium can be purchased at any health food store (open on a Sunday) and I believe Shoppers might even carry it.

  79. Mike- I would suggest trying to maintain a lower quantity of food intake and focus more on the quality of food you’re eating. When we eat nutrient dense food, we don’t need to eat as much. This both benefits the efficiency of our digestive system and benefits our wallets.

  80. For veggie juice you can use the same recipes- just run it through a juicer or blender (and then strain out the pulp). The key is to keep the fruit to a minimum if at all.

  81. Marti- Just go with how you feel. There is no problem from a nutritional standpoint at all.

  82. There will be another group cleanse coming up in September. Will be sharing the details next week.

  83. Katie- The Green Smoothie Cleanse recipes are vegan (with the exception of honey) and so there is no worry of casein or whey. Bananas can easily be replaced by other fruits and are only used in a couple of the recipes. The smoothies are mainly veggies anyhow. Not to worry!

  84. I think their great! I like hempseeds as the are obviously less processed than a powder. Depending on the power of your blender, the flaxseeds may or may not work in there. Plenty of other ways to use them though so not to worry. You may still like to add in some flax oil should you find yourself at a store again.

  85. The medical supply place at Bathurst and Davenport definitely has it. The Big Carrot likely would or you could try some of the more ethnically located pharmacies
