Oh my, oh my was this homemade ice cream the most amazing thing I’ve ever eaten in my life. Or in the top 10 for sure.

My bestest friends over at Hamilton Beach Canada sent me the sweetest of gifts and the latest was their 1½ Quart Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Maker. All this time I thought ice cream made in a blender was as good as anything else, but let me tell you- that machine did some magic to our blend of magic.

I was also surprised that there was really not much of a process involved. We blended the goods together in our blender, poured it into our ice cream maker and shazaam alakazaam, a half hour later we were ooing and aahing over the amazing ice creamy creation we had collectively created.

I was offered a task. It’s one of those tasks that make me want to cartwheel over the kind of tasks that have become part of my job.

My long lost lover, fellow nutritionista, long distance pen pal, around the world adventurer, and momma friend Gabriela, the wordstress and recipe mistress behind the blog The Picky Foodie, emailed me asking if I would play in her cookie games.

Her desire was to for 10 of her food loving/ baking friends from around the fair globe to take her basic cookie recipe and make it our own.

True Story Of Margarita Mondays!

True story. You ready for this one?

Now, I am sure you all recognize that my mom is amazing. She is. She’s our superhero advice giver and is totally late on her post because she was in Paris with my dad and then enrolled herself in what I call Montessori art camp, up in Haliburton. Her post is coming soon!

Oh my love sweet lovers. I can only go so long without sharing some sweet, sweet chocolate love.

I created this gem for the attendees at my Raw Food Power workshop a couple weeks ago. I always have a challenge when I do the same workshops over and over again.

I was really excited to make these. The original recipe is by the delightful queen of clean, green, simple and brilliant recipes, Elana Amsterdam of Elana’s Pantry, who I had the pleasure of interviewing last Spring. Her recipes always inspire!

Holy cannolley doodle! This recipe here officially marks the second Monday in a row where I have thrown a little rum into the mix. I think this nutritionista spent a little to much time sunning and funning it up in St. Lucia. But you know what? You know me better than to think I play by any rules and a little rum mixed into chocolate once in a while, is super-cali-fantastica-liciousness. So take a deep breath and get your ‘alcohol is the devil’ evil nutrition eye outta, here!

The thing about this chocolate covered cup-o-love is that there isn’t much rum and it is the most decadent piece of brilliance I have come up with in ages. And I write this as I look at this giant bottle of rum, staring me in the face. I suppose it may be time that I explain why I even have the boozey booze kicking around this parts given that hard liquor isn’t really my cup of tea (though a little Nourishtea minty igloo- that be peppermint- with a little dabble of rum may just be amazing).

If you didn’t love me before, these ‘things’, will win you over. I don’t really know what to call them because they aren’t really chocolate. What they are really is amazing. Really amazing. They have all my fave things including vanilla bean and the ever so decadent cocoa butter. See, what’s confusing here is that the vanilla bean is what gave them that brown on top but in factory farmed confectionery- vanilla is always shown as a ‘white’ flavour. Why is that when the bean is so clearly black as night?

Ginger Cookies

Everyone loves home baked cookies. And they really don’t take much time at all.
You mix the dry.
Chop a little chocolate. This was Green and Blacks dark chocolate with crystallized ginger in it.
Throw a couple blobs of cookie dough on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
And just like that, fresh home baked cookies are served.

You can still have your goodies while on a low glycemic lifestyle. Yes you can.
See, when we want to keep things low on the glycemic scale, we can’t just look at the individual food but also how it is being combined. We can combine higher glycemic index foods, like honey for example, with foods that are right in healthy fats, protein and fibre. This means that even though honey may be high, all the other things being partnered up with it could be low, and thus bringing down the whole load of the treat, making it a-okay!

Strawberry Sorbet Love

Being a superfood junkie, as I am, you know that I am all over the berries when they start showing their sweet, shiny curves at the market. Locally grown, seasonal, and delicious superfoods are as sexy to me as a man in bottom delighting jeans, a just small enough white t-shirt just and flip flops. I’ll take a heaping serving of both, thank you very much.

Dinner on Sunday is the way we go with my family and I am usually pooped out come Sunday night as my Sunday is like most people’s Wednesday in my work week and I am often put in charge of one dish or another. When, after a particularly hectic day, my momma declared “Meghan, you are in charge of dessert”, I did that thing that parents the world over hate that their kids do. I walked into my parents kitchen, opened the fridge, stared in and waited for a pile of ingredients to dance their merry dance together and proclaim themselves the perfect combination of things to make the perfect thing with.

Strawberries and Love

Whenever I cover something in chocolate, I immediately associate it with love. Chocolate will do that. The chemicals in chocolate as we know, make us feel just as we do when we are falling in love. And oh, how being in love is so very satisfying just like chocolate. Chocolate is so delicious in fact, as I once shared before, that more women would rather have chocolate than have sex.

I love Valentine’s Day. Now, it is not because I have some romantic notion of what Valentine’s Day means, and I was never one of those girls that had a boyfriend on Valentine’s Day who always knew just what to do, got me a sweet gift, lit some candles, made me dinner or any of [...]
