One of the challenges in our 21 Days To Health program is to eliminate and/or reduce the use of daily cosmetic or personal care products in favour of a safer, more natural ones. In my post last week, I asked the question about What Stinks In My Panty Hose where I question how I could still smell a perfume in a pair of tights, seven years later. An interesting discussion came up as the Question that day was about what product is the toughest to give up or change.

Going Au Naturelle is the recommendation for Day 9 of the 21 Days To Health Program and might just be one of the most important ones. I am sure, by now, you are familiar with my Natural Body Care book, or maybe have popped in on my Natural Body Care workshop. It is one thing to change up your diet to one that is cleaner and less processed, but we also need to think about what is going on our body.

Kale chips are kinda gearing towards the crack of healthy food addicts. Is that terribly un-PC to say? I’m over it. These crispy, crunchy, light and tasty flavour absorbers are just so gosh-darnitt delicious that when I started experimenting with them, well, I just couldn’t stop. You know how that song goes? Right? I believe I must use the stylings of Depeche Mode to truly describe how I feel…

To celebrate Making Love In The Kitchen’s first birthday, the bestest posts of the last year are getting another turn in the spotlight. These were selected either because they had the most traffic or should have. While together we stroll down memory lane, I will be away on a farm with no computer! We’ll chat [...]

Happy Day 2 of 5 Days Vegan. Today I would like to address this issue of soy. It’s a hotty tomale topic so feel free to disagree… just remember what Byron Katie says about defense so don’t expect me to battle you back. If you are a vegan based on the principles outlined in such [...]

In honour of one of Toronto’s most vibrant festivals of the year, Scotiabank Caribana Festival, this week is dedicated to the flavours and spirit of the part of the world I love best, the Caribbean. At sixteen, on holidays in Jamaica, my cousins and I would hitch a ride from the villa our family had [...]

I received my very first piece of hate mail last fall. I didn’t take it particularly personally as it wasn’t really a personal attack on me but more an attack on my profession as a whole. My friend Adam congratulated me, saying that when you can evoke a reaction in someone- good or bad- than [...]

If you haven’t heard, pistachio nuts have been recalled due to salmonella contamination- just like what happened with spinach and almonds a few years ago. And how could we forget the Maple Leaf Farms listeria disaster of this past fall. Now, you’ll have to excuse the seriousness of this post when I ask why some [...]

Photo courtesy of http://www.domestifluff.com Nut butter, whether it be almond, hazelnut, cashew, or peanut are a staple go to source of quick protein for veggies and health nuts (no pun intended), like myself. But these nut butters are not created equal. The two most common- peanut and almond butter are worlds apart in terms of [...]

I consider plant based diets to be most health supportive. Essentially, we are eating energy straight from the source, the sun, that has taken a little detour through plants for a little photosynthesis where sunlight is converted into an energy substance we can use- glucose. Mushrooms, therefore, have always been a bit challenging for me. [...]

A simple enough question I suppose. Though strangely, if people knew the answer, I would be out of a job. There has been much discussion of late around corn- the high fructose corn syrup ad campaign, the farm bill and how the US government pays off farmers to grow inedible corn, the use of corn [...]

Oh black licorice. Black licorice is one of those candies like rosewater flavoured Thrills gum; a flavour we either love or we hate. There is no middle ground. Black licorice has an odd nostalgic connection for my family. My dad’s grandfather owned a general store in Council Bluffs, Iowa where he stocked all sorts of [...]

Often we eat things, despite our better judgment, because they are easy, available and taste good. These reasons are acceptable to a point, but sometimes, depending on what those choices are, we really are better off eating nothing. My dad was recently in New York and sent along this photo of a pair of vending [...]
