There is nothing more amazing to me than when you challenge a great big company, and they actually step forward and answer. LOVE that! And I haven’t had much luck- still no word from Chef Boyardee, Baskin Robbins, Pop Chips, or McCain. Loblaws Carlton, however, have proven themselves awesome! A couple weeks ago I had my first job interview in years. Yes, with Loblaws. And now, it’s my chance to prove myself awesome. In response to the amazing call out we had with all my friends and faves on Twitter- over 150 people shouted out “Hey @LoblawsCarlton- we want @meghantelpner in your kitchen!” And that very same day, they emailed me wanting to chat. I had a great conversation with the class coordinator who agreed to have me come in for an ‘audition’ style class. And it’s coming up!

I’ve been there. I am sure you have been too at one point or another. You know- where you feel like you’re doing everything right, everything according to plan and yet you still don’t feel well. You eat all the right foods, do everything your doctor or natural health care rock star suggests and still it seems like it is all continuing to unravel. As a health cheer leader, I am forever telling my own story and offering guidance for others. Sometimes, I need to hear it too- my words but in someone else’s voice.

Happy Monday homegirls and lads,Raw Oreo’s anyone???
I made these in honour of making great things (Why do we need reasons? Make up your own!) The idea came from an amazing treat my main man and I enjoyed when we rocked it raw in the woods with David Wolfe oh so many moons ago. This was similar a treat we served- though they called them pancakes. I am digging them as raw oreos.

Oh joy oh bliss oh happy Friday. I have never in my whole entire life wanted a Friday as much as I wanted this one. In the past 8 days we have had over 70 people through the kitchen for a cumulative total of six amazing classes for a sold out weekend of fun, fun, fun. We had ladies (yes- all but one were ladies) join us from around Ontario including Barrie, Orillia and Ottawa and people come from as far as Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Connecticut. We’re kicking this health train onto International tracks which makes us even more excited about what’s cooking.
So here are three exciting things to share.

We are all about loving every inch of ourselves over here. It’s the rules we live by. But then- sometimes, pesky things get in the way that make it a little tricky to get that self love on. One such hard to love bit: cellulite. Is it safe to say that no one loves their own cottage cheese dimpled bootay? He/She may never notice it on us, but we see it. Here’s the thing- no amount of detox fennel warps, scrubs and creams is going to get that build up of toxins out of our fat cells (we know that’s what causes it right?)
What’s the best solution?

Oh the fun I had making a mess in my kitchen last week. With my book off my plate (for now), my classes humming along, and being all rested with the sun shining, I was inspired to get baking. I am not one of those tidy cooks, as you may have guessed. Recipe creation for me is this mad mess of ingredients, tools, music and dancing. The result is this…

We are excited over here! The time has come to reveal the magic that will be our 2013 retreat. Pushing it a little later next year due to the demands of my book, which will be released in December, we are embarking together on a new location, with a bigger group and much, much more to offer. This is so exciting (come on, do the running man with me). Are you coming???

It’s been a bit of a detox themed week here on the Love in the Kitchen blog, no? Being so excited about the next round of our amazingly awesometown Fab Uplift Detox program, we can’t HELP but be chitchatting about detox power.
Sometimes it’s easy to forget just why detoxes are so important for our bods. Yes, you may shed the junk in the trunk and yes you will feel and look amazing. You will glow, you will feel light on your toes. But most importantly, detoxing is about making your body a strong powerhouse against illness and disease. It is about giving your body a fighting chance and making it the healthiest it can be. Eliminating the toxins from within and building your immune system are truly the best benefits from detoxing, no two ways about it.

“Friendly Correspondence” is a semi-regular feature on Making Love In The Kitchen. As you may know, we’re not afraid to ask questions of BIG food, pharma, and fundraising to get more basic details regarding ingredients, chemical levels, testing and where donations end up. I continually aim to have an open dialogue and invite interviews. I seem to be getting ignored a lot. I decided I would just start sharing the correspondence. If we can’t stand up for what we do, why are we doing it? “It’s All Good”, or so their slogan says. But is it? We posted this a few months ago and received a notice from McCain’s ad agency that the ingredients had changed and that we should have a look. Funnily enough, when we hopped over to the McCain Pizza Pocket website, the following was splashed across their website: Can a nutritionist and a Pizza Pockets® snack get along?

Gluten-Free Cleanser Mary asked us the following: If I am doing the Gluten-Free Cleanse, do I need to do a detox too?
Our answer: They definitely support each other but unfortunately, given the world most of us live in- that includes questionably clean drinking and showering water, strange chemicals in our food and air, and likely doing too much and not sleeping enough, sometimes our body needs an extra list.
Did you know we carry on average 7-25 pounds of poo around with us in our intestines (I know you want to tweet that gem of knowledge)? Eeeeww! Imagine what kind of poo juice you are absorbing back in if you’re not cleansing all that goo out!

GREEN! Yep, ’tis true my friends. The Emerald Isle is aptly named for its lush and rolling green hillsides. I like to think, rather fondly, if you could juice a country what colour would it be? Happily, Ireland would be a nice, big green juice (or smoothie). On that note- Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Or as I have referred to it over the years “everyone pretend to be Irish day”. And I get it, I really do. We Irish peeps are highly likable- charming, charasmatic, modest (obviously), what’s not to love? So the masses, decked out in shamrock gear, take to the streets, the bars, the pubs- drink massive amounts of green beer and whiskey, fall in and out love and get into a bunch of fights. All the stereotypical events that are associated with the Irish. Don’t worry- we don’t take offense. Perhaps our greatest quality is our sense of humour, after all…

Labels are for tin cans. Given that we’ve been rocking the healthwashing theme all week- this next line in our creed fits like BHT coated cereal bag in a phthalate laminated box. I sincerely believe that labels should be reserved for tin cans and I advocate healthy eating whether it be vegan, vegetarian, raw, paleo, omnivore or whatever a person chooses. I choose to support people’s health, not mandate any one diet or regime, or expect that everyone should eat just like me. If a person is seeking education on incorporating more plants into their diet, well, that is where I come in. That’s what I know, that is what I eat and live and that is what I do and teach.
