As not everyone can get the amazing Yogalicious Kefir Ice Cream I wrote about last week, here is a solution. Make your own. Enjoy this guest post from Tara Kelly!

I make no secret or excuses about my love for the sunshine. The other night over dinner, my gentleman caller inquired as to what I would be called if I weren’t called Meghan. Despite people’s tendency to call me Rachel when they don’t know my name (I think it’s the Jewess thing), I would go with Sunshine. I fear for the future of my unconceived children.

The point being I love the sun and sun bathing and it would take a massive hole in the ozone directly above me and being buck-naked at high noon for me to put any kind of sunblock on. Has sunscreen helped reduce rates of skin cancer? Nopers. Is it nearly impossible to find a safe rated sunscreen? It sure is. This leads me to believe it’s best to avoid using it as much as possible. Now, if you are in a situation where you will be exposed to a load of rays mid-afternoon, cover up and be sensible. But think about these things:

Chili Monday

Chili. Nope, not something we really need to be eating in Spring as the cruciferous goodies begin to show themselves and I can feel the asparagus yearning to spring forth from the earth. I never play by the rules. In my ongoing efforts to eat up my tempeh, I am continually coming up with new and wondrous ways to chow down on it.

The irony of this post is that I am pretty sure everything in this chili was exactly what my gastroenerologist advised me not to eat on the silly ‘low-residue’ diet he recommended eons ago when I was sick. This chili is rich in fibre, has loads of beans and veggies, an assortment of spices and my secret ingredient that makes Grandma Meghan’s Secret Tomato Sauce recipe really kick it to the next level:

They don’t call them superfoods for nothing. They really are amazing. The coconuts and the aloe, the goji and the spirulina. Now I’ll be the first to admit that I am not ready to give up my stove, exclusively in favour of consuming every super-powered meals out of my VitaMix. Not there yet, and may [...]

Milk Those Coconuts

I promise that this will be my last tropical post for a wee little while. I am all over making my own hemp milk, almond milk, even sesame and flax milk. I have ventured into the land of oat milk and rice milk. All great. I haven’t the foggiest of foggies why it took me this long to realize how easy it was to get my coconut milk from a coconut, rather than a can.

Yes, I can hear you! I live in Toronto, not the tropics, but still…

Two parts of this post title are true and two parts are not true. This is a sauce and it is made from tomatoes. This sauce is not a secret (anymore) and I don’t have a grandma named Meghan (my grandma is Fritzi) and I am not even close to being a grandma. The reason [...]

And all is revealed. I went out to Ohio to visit Josh! You’ve read about him before here, and here, and here, and here and here. In July, when he applied for a 6-week internship with United Plant Savers, an herbal medicine sanctuary, I’ll admit, I was a bit jealous. I was in the midst [...]
