That pic above was taken at the final class of my Feb/March 6-Week Cooking Program. What fun we had! Was like a dinner party every week with my newest and bestest girlfriends! Anyway- the season here is almost sold out, which is crazy fun! At this time, we don’t have plans to add any more classes before the end of June, and won’t be starting up again until September. Don’t miss out!

“Remember that time we judged a fiddleheads culinary competition?”
That’s what my dear sweet nutritonista friends Julie Daniluk (@JulieDaniluk) and Joy McArthy (@joyoushealth) are going to say to each other one day soon. Random sounding I know, but the three of us, along with a host of Toronto’s movers/shakers/food-writers were asked to judge, just such an event.
The evening was beautiful, I must say, complete with roses, champaign, great conversation- kinda like the best date ever. This event was hosted by the fantastically sweet and enthusiastic couple who own and operate Norcliffe Farms, in honour of the sweet rising star that is The Fiddlehead.
Do you know what they are? I wrote about them and offered a recipe a couple of years ago. In short, they are a specific type of fresh out of the ground fern that has yet to unfurl. We love the foods that come out of the ground first, after the frost fades away for a while. These first wild crops are always dense and super powered in nutrition, and fiddleads don’t disappoint.

Holy smokerdoodles bat-ladies and gents! Talk about transitions. Not only did I leap a 50 degree difference between St. Lucia and Toronto when I came back, but I lept worlds!
I remember so clearly coming home from winter holidays as a teenager. My clearest memory was actually in grade 9 gym class. I had come from Jamaica the day before and I recall being in gym class jumping rope on that shiny squeaky floor wishing for all my might that I could be transported back to the beach I had just been ripped away from.

Oh my sweet mommas! It has been a while since I was this excited for an event. Maybe not since my St. Lucia retreat (which sadly will be ending in 2 days). So because I knew I’d be in a funk when the fun in the sun came to an end, I had to bring in some sunshine. That sunshine is coming in the form of the Groove Master trainer herself, Ms. Brooke Yanzte.

Brooke is my partner in Power for our February 26th Power Party. While she was over here and we were planning the event, I got curious about this sweet Ms. Brooke and put her on the spot, asking if I could interview her about how she came to find this amazing dance fun. This is our conversation…

As you may be aware, I wrote a good portion of my blog before I even left for St. Lucia. As you may also be aware, being able to spend a month here, part work and part play, is my absolute dream come true. Have you been reading my behind the scenes interview?

I’m really not joking here. That may have been the first thing I said when I arrived “Ooooh! Boys and Vegetables- my two favourite things!”. And yes, that is in the correct order.
On New Year’s day, the Love In The Kitchen posse, including my awesome town right hand lady Jen and my autumnal intern Jade, were invited to a smoothie party (yes, Leor- I spell smothie with an ‘ie’). I was excited from the moment I saw that sign up above. When the rest of the world, or most of it, were dragging their hung over bottoms around, I was revving up for the New Year with some sweet community goodness.

I swear that these trade shows are like the best Halloween for nutritionistas and healthy living junkies. There comes a point in this health thing that it goes beyond a lifestyle and also becomes your most beloved hobby.

The other option for the title of this blog was: My dad has cancer and my boyfriend dumped me.
They’re both equally bad if you ask me but I think the one I used might be the worst blog post title I have ever written, so I went with that.

Over the last few weeks, I have been increasingly frustrated by things I’ve been hearing. The hydrogenated, high fructose corns syrup icing on the refined corn and high fructose corn syrup cake was when I was informed that deep fried Twinkies were served at the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation fundraiser. It is hard for me to stay rosey and smiley and just let that go. I am astounded by the effort and money people will throw at such organizations, doing “research” to find “cures”, when I am the research and the cure is simply- to heal and repair.

I make no secret or excuses about my love for the sunshine. The other night over dinner, my gentleman caller inquired as to what I would be called if I weren’t called Meghan. Despite people’s tendency to call me Rachel when they don’t know my name (I think it’s the Jewess thing), I would go with Sunshine. I fear for the future of my unconceived children.
The point being I love the sun and sun bathing and it would take a massive hole in the ozone directly above me and being buck-naked at high noon for me to put any kind of sunblock on. Has sunscreen helped reduce rates of skin cancer? Nopers. Is it nearly impossible to find a safe rated sunscreen? It sure is. This leads me to believe it’s best to avoid using it as much as possible. Now, if you are in a situation where you will be exposed to a load of rays mid-afternoon, cover up and be sensible. But think about these things:
