When I was growing up my parents made a deal: my mom prepared meals on weeknights and my dad was in charge of weekend dinners. Of course, this meant ordering take-out or going out to eat on Saturday nights, and grilling up hamburgers or hot dogs on Sunday nights. It was a routine my father could handle and every Sunday at around 5 pm or so, he would come find me and ask me if I wanted a “hut dog” or a hamburger. Yeah, that’s not a typo. For whatever reason he called them hut dogs and still does.

Is it nearly impossible to find a safe rated sunscreen? It sure is. This leads me to believe it’s best to avoid using it whenever possible and at the same time avoid being out in the sun at its highest as much as possible.

Holy superman-monkey-balls was I blown right on away over the response I got to the announcement of my brand shiny Culinary Nutrition Expert Program. I can’t believe it is almost full. We will be adding a 2012 date shortly, as soon as I work out if I can run a second retreat. You know what I LOVE most about the goodness we’re cooking up? It’s how far and wide this info is stretching, being received and being shared.

A funny thing, health records. They contain some of our most private, personal and important information about ourselves and very few of us have our own copies. When we get tests done, rarely can we get our results sent directly to us.
Back in 2006, when I was suffering from severe symptoms of IBD, I went to see my doctor, who informed me that she would be moving out of the city and would not be able to follow up, and suggested I find a new family doctor. She didn’t say she would be taking my files with her.

Oh spring time vegetables, how I love your lovely lovelyness. Who here is cartwheeling under the cherry blossoms in celebration of three days in a row of sunshine? Me. Me. MEEEE!
I stopped by my local farmer’s market yesterday and loaded up on Spring goodies. After yesterday’s post all about the toxic world of hospitals and horribly misguided use of funds by ‘cure searching’ organizations, it was delightfully refreshing to stroll the stalls, tote bag to tote bag with my people. My people, being you too of course, who get the value of good, home grown food and the power it has to not only heal the body, but the mind and spirit too. There is really nothing better than buying food outside in the sunshine, there very same place it is meant to be grown.
Compare for a moment these two options we have when it comes to our food production. The first is a beautiful slideshow that has been put together by our very own Superhero Farmer Daniel Hoffman for his biz, The Cutting Veg.

Since many of us are thriving in the 3rd day of our Green Smoothie Cleanse, while many others are just kicking it off today, I wanted to make sure I didn’t show you anything that may tempt you.
I know, you are looking at that photo above and you’re thinking- “Oh No! Has Meghan been arrested for protesting at the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation’s M&M Meat Shops Charity BBQ raising money to find a ‘cure’ for Crohn’s while feeding people the worst kind of meat, pop and deep fried Twinkies- and that picture is of her prison rations”?

Oh that pesky little thing we’ve been hearing so much about, that thing we call radiation? Well, whether media is talking or not, whether a reactor has blown up or not, it is seeping and it is not new. Radiation is everywhere- from phones and TVs and sunshine (obviously worse with recurring burns in the same spots). Do you keep a clock by your bed and have an outlet behind your bed? Radiation, lovers. Radiation.

For the most part vitamin, mineral and herbal supplements are really just a means to increase the value of your pee.
What?!?!? Huh!?!?! How dare I say that, being a nutritionist and all?
The truth is that for every good, valuable and effective supplement there is on the market, there’s probably about ten bad ones (exhibit A: supplement aisle of Costco, Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, and Walgreens).
There are all these laws and bills being passed here in Canada in an effort to regulate supplements in terms of dosage, availability etc. You can bet that when a supplement gets pulled from the shelves of your local health food store, it is not because it is really in violation of anything, or that the dosage or contents will be harmful. Chances are quite good that supplement is actually incredibly effective, rivals a pharmaceutical, is plant based and therefore unpatentable. Meaning- it’s a threat to the biz side of disease care.

Guest Post by Kerry Helston, author of Mercury In My Mouth
More and more of us are starting to see how great we can feel when we switch on, feed ourselves wholesome and nourishing foods, possibly even cleanse our bodies and rid our house of toxic products. But what happens when we have a constant source of pollution and toxins sitting right in our mouths? It’s pretty likely that your dentist didn’t tell you (because they don’t have to), but those silver fillings you have in your mouth, they actually contain about 50% mercury by weight.

Yesterday I introduced you to one type of doctor. Now let’s meet another!
In December, when I had the pleasure of holidaying with my family in Jamaica, we met an herbal medicine man named Charlie who took us on a tour of some local herbs. Not THAT herb… the healing kind. The OTHER kind of healing. Come on now!

I was well overdue for my annual check up with my doctor. We’re talking about 18 months past the annual check up date. Finding a doctor was no easy task for me, so I settled on one that made up for her lack of open mindedness with being really nice. My doctor is really, really nice. That’s kind of it though.
Going to the doctor for me is a bit of a field trip into The Land Of Different. Everything about how they operate is different to how I run my health practice. But I always, always, always go with an open mind, hoping for the best.

There is something so striking about the pomegranate. Not just striking but uber sexual. This fruit is the ultimate symbol of fertility! Bring on the sexy fruit my lovers. And not just sexy sexy but sweet, tart, tangy and tantalizingly delicious!
Right when you cut it open and reveal those little ruby gems, you know you’re in for a real treat. I think the abundance of gorgeous and delicious pomegranates is one of the few things I enjoy about the winter months. And sadly, pomegranate season is coming to an end! Well, we better give this fruit some lovin’ while we still can
