October is breast cancer awareness month. Slightly redundant really, as I am pretty sure we are all aware it is out there, our options if we are diagnosed with it and so we can wear pink ribbons, use special pink lipstick, eat pink M&Ms, host pink themed bake sales and even drink a little pink Mike’s Hard Lemonade.

I think we’ve been aware for some time now, and it doesn’t seem to be doing all that much. Between being aware, donating money to who knows where, and stressing our poor nervous systems with all these crazy marathons for the “cure”, maybe we should take a different look at things. We’re all aware, now let’s work on prevention.

It is a rare treat when I can simultaneously show off the best shower ever and my adorable (or so I proclaim) cuddle rolls all at one go. This was at the Tofino Hot Springs cove last summer.

The photo may be sweet but did the title catch your attention? I hope it did.

Remember a few weeks back when I wrote all about water and how I love to bits drinking my fresh Spring Water? We often get so caught up in the water that we drink, that we forget about the water we are bathing in every single day.

It’s approaching that dreadful time of year again- saying goodbye to Summer and hello to Fall. Shifting from season to season is a lot like shedding a layer of your earth’s suit. Its time to let go of the past (Summer) and look forward to the future (Fall), but ALWAYS remember to stay focused in the present. One way you can honour your self during this time of transition is to practice yoga.

Read below to learn the top 10 reasons why you should continue to and/or begin practicing yoga!

We all get them from time to time. They creep up on us and it’s all we can think about for the rest of the day. We get a bit cranky and feel like taking a snooze. We may even resort to digging deep in our pantries to see what we can come up with. I’m talking sugar cravings. We all know that when we get them they’re super beastly and relentless. We often find ourselves giving in just to stop that “need” we feel.

It’s okay to admit you give in. It’s not the end of the world, it just means we need to take a look at why they’re happening and what emotions we’re experiencing and nutrients we’re missing out on that are the driving factors. When we get down to it, stress is often the real culprit here. As Meghan has outlined this week, stress is a huge problem we face in our day-to-day lives. It seems to be especially prominent this time of year when our routines are changing, kids are off to school, and we have a million things on our to-do lists.

For those of you have joined our 21 Days To Health Challenge, no matter where you are at in it, you likely skipped ahead and noticed the bit where you’re supposed to cut out caffeine.

Now, before you start asking all kinds of questions about whether caffeine is really so bad for you, I will say Yes, yes it is.

Caffeine, unless taken up the bum (yes, that’s what I said), will work against each and every one of your physical, and emotional goals. You can read all about it here, but to summarize:

What a week it has been. I have been doing my very, very best to abide the rules I wrote myself with my 21 Days To Health, program. My most favourite challenge of course is on day 3 when we must get ourselves to bed early. There are three things I love to bits that help me sleep like a baby.

Sleep mask to block out the light.
Lavender essential oil sprinkled on my pillow
3 capsules of Peaceful Spirit- my most fave bed time supplement in the whole wide world (more on that next week)
I have been loving these things even more as I spent just three nights last weekend on the other side of the country, 3 time zones away in Vancouver and then came back right in the swing of things. And you know what? No jet lag! Not even for one night. It was amazing.
I digress, as today I sit in the audience at TedX Toronto, invited to participate as a delegate, I wanted my brain powered up and ready to rock. And you know what does it? A green juice breakfast and a smoothie brunch.

Today I would like to address this issue of soy. It’s a hotty tomale topic so feel free to disagree… just remember what Byron Katie says about defense so don’t expect me to battle you back.

If you are a vegan based on the principles outlined in such poppy culture books as Skinny Bitch (ugh) then you are likely inclined to think that eating a vegan ‘ burger’ is a wiser choice than eating a real burger. Not sure I would agree with that.

Monkey balls I say! Is it really September tomorrow?

What? What on earth was that??? Oh my, it was the cool fall breeze blowing in.

I am not happy about this my friends. Not happy at all. But I will learn to embrace because fighting against what we cannot change is a massive waste of energy, totally futile and rumour has it, also causes suffering beyond the crap-olla event itself.

$400,000! This is highest price anyone has ever paid for a ginseng root. It was a 300-year-old root that was found in 2007. Some say that ginseng is worth the money. I’ll let you be the judge.

The proper name of ginseng is Panax Ginseng. The word Ginseng is derived from a Chinese term, which means “man root”. Most likely due to its signature appearance that resembles the limbs of a person. Panax shares the same origin as “panacea” meaning “all heal”. Put the all together and you get the “all-heal man root”.

At Inside Out Health Solutions my patients are always asking for help in creating a great first aid kit. I have a few key homeopathic products that are always stocked in my personal medicine cabinet. By being prepared and having these things on hand you can make healthy decisions for healing yourself and your family!

Homeopathic remedies are safe to use and best of all they really work. Simply melt three to five pellets of the homeopathic remedy under your tongue. Homeopathic remedies are best taken away from strong tastes such as mint, coffee or garlic. This means if you have just eaten rinse your mouth out with water before taking your homeopathic. A few of my favourite remedies are listed below.

Oh what fun summer has been so far! We’re definitely well into it and I’m sure many of you have been to your fair share of backyard parties. There are so many things to love about patio season – fresh salads, grilled veggies, in-season fruit, the fact that it is bright enough to actually see your friends well into the night!

For many, BBQs are also accompanied by a few (or a few too many) drinks. I’m talking alcohol here. I’ve seen recycling bins filled to the brim with nothing but beer bottles. I will never understand the appeal of that beverage. To me it tastes like cat pee mixed with perrier and maybe a squeeze of turpentine. I know you know what I mean! Other types of alcohol just taste like pure yuckiness to me and I suppose that’s why they are often mixed with delicious juices to make cocktails. So why do you need the icky tasting stuff in there if the juice is so delicious tasting by itself? It’s not like tequila is doing anything for your health that it’s actually worth the nasty taste and corosive heart-on-fire feeling you get from downing it.
