Guest post by Aletheia Zoe Chiang of La Fille Naturelle.

I made dinner for my housemates last night – who aren’t raw vegans – and they adored the recipes, inspired from the French countryside. I looked through Julia Child’s classic French cookbook and modified recipes – for example, by using healthy raw fats instead of butter (i.e. macadamia nuts), and eliminating the heating process. Et voila.

Contrary to popular belief, I am not a strict vegan. As my friend Elana, who was once macrobiotic and is now indulging in raw cheeses and fish says, “labels are for tin cans”. I agree. But I have my limits when it comes to eating foods that once had eyes.

Wild Leek Adventure Pesto

What fun we had last weekend, when we went away up north to my cottage to harvest some of Spring’s best goodies. Of course, a first harvest of the season is not complete without wild leeks, also known as ‘ramps’. This was our first foray into the land of wild leeks and was it ever exciting for two nerdy nutritionists!

There is great power in the first fresh local foods of the season. These mighty little things are the first to spring forth from the earth after the deep freeze of Winter. And wouldn’t you know it, they also provide so much of what our body needs to cleanse from the Winter build-up. One nutrient of note, is quercitin. You have heard of this before.

I’ve been known to work a lot. Yes. It does happen sometimes. And sometimes I will be working all morning, hop out for a little pre-lunch bike ride and come home absolutely famished. I am talking the kind of famished that doesn’t want a smoothie but famished for a chewable meal.

Eggplants Look Like Wonky Purple Boobs

Should I just say what we’re all thinking here? That eggplants are funny looking. Or should I be more specific and say that eggplants are funny looking because they look a bit like wonky boobs? Well they do. They also have an ugly name. The idea of an actual egg plant is like something straight [...]

Not too long ago, I wrote about my challenge with returning produce in an article called Rotten Grapes and Ripped Jeans. I have never been one to return produce. When rotten produce brings an infestation of fruit flies into my home I am just going to have to say something. A couple of weeks ago, [...]

I’ll admit that I find the food blogs where people post photos of everything they eat oddly fascinating. I would love to do that but I just never remember until after I am done eating. This lunch, however, looked so pretty that I took a photo and am now sharing it with you. My lunches [...]

Ring My Bell… Pepper

The name for this post comes from maybe one of the worst songs (and even worse videos) ever recorded. I am a child of the 80′s and a teenager of the 90′s so to say I didn’t really have quality music to choose from, wouldn’t be much of a stretch. Vanilla Ice, Right Said Fred [...]
