I offer loads of info about loads of foods- some everyday foods like squash and raspberries and some weirder foods like cocoa butter and aloe. I’m an equal opportunity food researcher.

Today- the food falls into the weird category- and is also fitting after all the excitement yesterday over the registration rush on our Fab Uplift Detox Program.

There is something powerful, magical and inherently healing about the ocean. There is no place I would rather be than with my toes in the ocean. There is also something incredibly powerful about the ocean. Our planet depends on the health of our water for survival.

Wait a second- don’t we, as humans also rely on the power of our water for survival? Yes, my fair sister, Yes! I say.

Castor oil is amazing. A truly wonderous gem of a plant. No to mention how beautiful it is. See? Sweet right!

It is my go-to remedy for almost everything skin and immune related and can be viewed as an alternative to cortisone or antibiotic creams. The ricinoleic acid in castor oil prevents the growth of bacteria, yeast, and viruses. When I have joint pain anywhere, I rub it on the joints, if I have swollen glands, I massage it into neck/gland area, if I am feeling a little backed up- on to my belly it goes (massaged in a clockwise direction- the same direction stuff moves through the large intestine). With a cold or congestion, I’ll mix in a little comfrey and eucalyptus and massage it into my chest. Be warned- it will stain your clothes so put on the old and uglies for this one.

Castor oil has many beneficial uses in health and beauty products as well as in industrial uses. It is however a master at the gentle detox. You know how we love the detoxers that require minimal effort. This is one you need to welcome into your life and here is why.

October is breast cancer awareness month. Slightly redundant really, as I am pretty sure we are all aware it is out there, our options if we are diagnosed with it and so we can wear pink ribbons, use special pink lipstick, eat pink M&Ms, host pink themed bake sales and even drink a little pink Mike’s Hard Lemonade.

I think we’ve been aware for some time now, and it doesn’t seem to be doing all that much. Between being aware, donating money to who knows where, and stressing our poor nervous systems with all these crazy marathons for the “cure”, maybe we should take a different look at things. We’re all aware, now let’s work on prevention.

You know those people who go on those re-donk-you-lus cleanses that essentially sound like they’re spending a week, crash course style living the way you’ve been living for the last five years, only to go back at the end of it and start eating like the slothy fatty McFatter standard North American processed diet full of wheat, cheese, booze and sugar?

Wait a second! You’re not one of them too are you?

Here’s the thing most people have to learn about detox. It’s not a diet. A detox should not be a crash anything. It’s not something you can do twice a year where for 1 week you drink epsom salts, consume only lemonade and enema your poopershnickle out the hooha. The best of the best way to detox is to make 80% of what most people would consider a cleanse, your everyday way of living. Make sense?

It is a rare treat when I can simultaneously show off the best shower ever and my adorable (or so I proclaim) cuddle rolls all at one go. This was at the Tofino Hot Springs cove last summer.

The photo may be sweet but did the title catch your attention? I hope it did.

Remember a few weeks back when I wrote all about water and how I love to bits drinking my fresh Spring Water? We often get so caught up in the water that we drink, that we forget about the water we are bathing in every single day.

Guest Post by Kerry Helston, author of Mercury In My Mouth

More and more of us are starting to see how great we can feel when we switch on, feed ourselves wholesome and nourishing foods, possibly even cleanse our bodies and rid our house of toxic products. But what happens when we have a constant source of pollution and toxins sitting right in our mouths? It’s pretty likely that your dentist didn’t tell you (because they don’t have to), but those silver fillings you have in your mouth, they actually contain about 50% mercury by weight.

A couple of weeks ago, a good friend commented on her status about taking her evening dose of psyllium. Now, I know of many people who have a cup of coffee first thing in the morning to get things moving. I do this too sometimes, but it’s not what you think.

Are you ready to talk enemas? I do think it’s time. If you have my Green Smoothie Cleanse you have likely seen my little one pager on the importance of and how to with a regular enema. I don’t include this information because I am some insane nutritionista without a grasp on what peeps are really willing to do for their health.

One of the challenges in our 21 Days To Health program is to eliminate and/or reduce the use of daily cosmetic or personal care products in favour of a safer, more natural ones. In my post last week, I asked the question about What Stinks In My Panty Hose where I question how I could still smell a perfume in a pair of tights, seven years later. An interesting discussion came up as the Question that day was about what product is the toughest to give up or change.

Going Au Naturelle is the recommendation for Day 9 of the 21 Days To Health Program and might just be one of the most important ones. I am sure, by now, you are familiar with my Natural Body Care book, or maybe have popped in on my Natural Body Care workshop. It is one thing to change up your diet to one that is cleaner and less processed, but we also need to think about what is going on our body.

As generally healthy eating peeps (I give you the benefit of the doubt because you’re reading me), we are freaking ridiconculously crazified for kale chips. We really are.

We are all over these raw treats. Kale chips are awesome and we love the idea of drinking fresh veggie juices everyday and then taking all that pulp to make the most amazing raw crackers. Then, in our minds, we see ourselves munching on our home grown sprouts, while our liver sings us love songs and our intestines wave their celebratory fibre flags of victory.

What do China, Japan and Rutland, Ohio have in common? Autumn olives! My newest favourite fruit. I clearly made like a bird munching these goodies right off the branch. Josh pointed them out to me towards the end of our three-hour hike along the medicine trail at the farm and we were hungry. These berries [...]
