As soon as I sampled the treat that was the Strawberry Rhubarb Cake last week, I immediately began thinking of all the other ways I could use the moist and cakey base.  With local tomatoes and basil in abundance, I thought, Hey, why not take this cake to Italy and call it bread, or Tomasil [...]

Almond Bread

When we think of bread, we usually think white-flour, water, yeast, and salt. Now if we were to take all those things away and create a moist, nutrient dense, high protein, low allergenic, sandwich friendly bread, well, we might just have a solution to all those ADD-type behaviour disorders that are equally prevalent in both [...]

Fruit Cakettes

When this photo (not the one above) appeared with a post I had written for The Appetizer, I sent my an email to my editor inquiring about the photo and what the little green bits were (in my nutrition naivete, I thought they were peas). I was informed that in the tradition of Christmas Fruitcake, [...]

I baked bread! Real, traditional sourdough bread. From scratch! It was a week long journey that had its highs and lows. There was the horrendous stench of fermentation, a small infestation of fruit flies, the peculiar bubbling and frothing, moving the bowl from the window sill to the counter depending on the weather… But after [...]
