I wrote the creed in about 10 minutes. For real. I had been thinking about it and when it came to put pen to paper (or index fingers to keyboard- yes, two finger typer over here), it just flowed out. Why? Because I live it of course. Every mindful moment of my day, I do my best to lighten up, smile and always remember that Today, most certainly, is the day. We have been getting emails and letters (and even photos!) from around the globe, with people sharing how they are doing their best to live this creed as their own manifesto. It’s become art on their walls, backgrounds on their phones, wallpaper on their desktop, and of course- their go to tote bag. For this reason, I have something I would like share… in a moment. First- we made a few creed inspired changes around the kitchen (that went with a few changes on my biz site). We took down my old signature decal that greets guests in my kitchen.

Does cutting off waist-length hair in one shot make me brave? Nah. But I did it. When I made a brief mention about it on Twitter- I couldn’t believe the reaction. Hair seems to be one of those things. So many of us carry it as a wee little form of comfort blanket that sits happily on our head.

What happened to me was that I had long, long hair. And then when I got sick- and it all started coming out. I chopped it off. When I got healthy again, I began growing it back. I grew it longer and longer and longer, and it got curlier and curlier until- I stopped having the time to care for it.

Last week we shot all the pics for my book. I decided there was a good chance between now and when my book comes out next year, that the scissors were going to meet my hair. And so I did it. I thought it might help me look all of my 32 years. No such luck, it seems.

My stylist took my hair in a ponytail, and in one fell swoop- chopped it right off.

I want you to have the absolutely best holidays ever! I really, really, really do. Sometimes though, we have a little too much fun and that too much fun can include a few too many boozy bevvies, a shenanigan of sugar, late into the night nights and not nearly enough care about our health. Not to worry my friends- you can have all the fun you like (within moderation of course), because I will be here and ready at you service to help you clean things back up. By popular (and sold out and waiting lists out the wazzooo), we are bringing the program back! Yes! Perhaps you want to get this for yourself as your New Years New You gift to yourself. Rather than toot the horn about how awesome this program is and the OUTSTANDING results people experienced with the first round of it, I’ll let them share their words.

We have stressed time and time again the importance of knowing where your food comes from. Farmer’s markets are great for this, because often the person selling the food grew it themselves or is related to the person who grew it. So, our salads are chock-a-block full of locally grown, organic foods…but what about our nuts? Nuts and seeds are such quintessential aspects of healthy diets, but rarely do we consider where our favourite nuts and seeds come from – where they are grown, how they are grown and who distributes them. Seems, dare I say, a little nuts right? It is essential to understand where our food comes from but that must extend further than fruits and veggies. Deciding on where to purchase your nuts and seeds doesn’t need to be a difficult decision. Firstly, ensure the nuts and seeds you purchase are organic to avoid any use of pesticides in the growing process or irradiation in the importing process. While there are some varieties of nuts that are grown in Canada, some of the most popular are not – and so it is important to trust the importer/distributer of nuts and seeds as well.

It’s been quite the ride the past three months. The time has come to say goodbye to the kitchen and I wanted to take this last opportunity to share some insight and talk about my experience. After three months of cooking classes, workshops, detoxing, packaging 100 pounds of smelly Irish moss, messes made and cleaned up – there have been lots of laughs and days of full bellies here at the kitchen. Today, I can proudly say that I can bake a really good batch of gluten free muffins…among other things, and I have truly appreciated and loved every moment of being part of the Making Love in The Kitchen Team. Meghan has been our leader, fearlessly running the show while Alexa and I (currently known as thing 1 and thing 2 – an unstoppable team) have been behind the scenes cooking, organizing, prepping and observing. Words cannot express how much I have grown the past three months. After graduating from nutrition school in October, I never could have imagined feeling as prepared and excited about going out into the world to spread the word of health after my time here.

As many of you- my sweet, lovely, wise and informed readers know, I do my song and dance all the live long day with a smile on my face and a colourful apron on to catch my messes as I strive to educate anyone who wants to learn about living in a state of abundant health.

I make it my mission to welcome people into the world of my blog, to all events in which I participate, and into my kitchen- no matter what their current lifestyle or eating habits are. I assume, if you are coming to me for advice, you are looking to make a few changes. I also stress in every presentation that I do, whether in my own kitchen, at public events or on TV, that people need to simply start from where they are at, and take it one step further towards health. I have believed, for the nearly four years that I have been working in this field, that this has been an effective approach.

Oh boy. oh boy! Can you tell how true this is? As my first ever Culinary Nutrition Expert Program comes to an end one of the most important things they can learn from the program is what bits of it they love the most (eating the good food we create, of course isn’t part of that). The reason for this is when we find the bits of our life, our career, or ourselves that we love the most, we tend to give those parts the most love back.

Here’s the thing. We sometimes trick ourselves into thinking that we can spend the day doing what we don’t like, thinking it may set us up for a future time when we will finally get to do what we do like. The problem with this theory is that the one day of doing the bad, sometimes turns into a week, or a month or a year or ten years. The next thing you know, a lifetime worth of time has passed us by and we failed to ever make the time to do what truly makes our heart sing. See, this doesn’t just affect us personally. We don’t just let ourselves down by fearing adventuring into the unknown land of making our passion our day-to-day experience, but it lets the world down. For when we do what we love, we have no choice but to do it with love, to pour our selves- heart and soul- into the mix.

You might be wondering how Getting Your Biz Rocking, has anything to do with health. Let me tell you!

Remember that time I had eight jobs in three years and my intestines literally exploded on me as a warning sign that I was not on the right track? I sure do. That’s how I ended up in the field of being a healthy living cheerleader.

This past week, I spent two afternoons speaking at the two campuses of the nutrition school I went to, encouraging the students that they had a duty to themselves to make their dreams come true, and offering some advice to make it happen.

And though it’s often icky to think about our dreams and health and also think about making money all at once, the truth is, at some point we have to. As many of you may have noticed, if you’ve been following me for sometime, I have been able to make my passion my career.
