That cool wind has started to blow. Come on now, St. Lucia is coming and perhaps you should give yourself a treat to look forward to and say “I am going to Nourish My Soul!“
Monday morning. What better time to have a cocktail. A light, zingy, refreshing cocktail. If you’ve already popped over to poke around on my discussion board, you may have noticed the section there called “Stupid Questions” where many of you, along with myself, have posted some of the dumber questions we have been asked about our healthy eating choices.
One of the stupidest questions I’ve ever been is asked was by a woman who wanted to know if she and her family could get all the veggies they needed for the day in a can of V-8. Many of you may read this and think it’s not that stupid. The can says you can. The can might say that, but all your servings of vegetables should not be in a can in the first place so let’s just move on from there and get back to the Monday morning cocktail.
I am sipping on mine right now. It is light, refreshing, kind of tart, a little sweet, slightly sour with a good kick of spice. What is it giving me in terms of health? Phytonutrients, anti-oxidants, vitamin C, anti-inflammatories, blood cleansers, circulation promoters, minerals, hydration and most important of all- joy!
With the last of local tomatoes still available at the market, I am making the most of them by drinking them straight up with some added gems.
You know, it’s Monday morning and quite frankly, I would rather sip on my cocktail than write anything else. So blend up your own and we can enjoy them together in silence.
Morning Cocktail
1 tomato
1/4 lemon (or 1-2 Tbs), juiced
2 tsp maple syrup or raw honey
pinch of super healthy sea salt
pinch of cayenne
2 cups water
- Place all ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth.
Cheers!

This is genius! I love a yummy tomato cocktail …I’m looking at you bloody mary! …but never really thought of making my own virgin version for breakfast. I love it and will try it…although I already drank my coconut shake, I’ll try this tomorrow morn, thanks!
This sounds perfect. I’m feeling cotton mouth-y and a little depleted, this is just the cure.
Just made this at dinner time and it was delicious. I was a bit skeptical that it would taste good but indeed it did. Thanks for the great tip!
Skeptical? Really? Have I led you astray yet?
OOOH! Delicious! Our nana used to give us tomato juice for breakfast but it wasn’t quite as healthy as this one (sodium overload!). I think I will make this and take a (healthy) trip down memory lane!
This one is awesome! Great post workout too to replenish electrolytes without spiking blood sugar.
Awesome, do I can just throw the tomato in, seeds and all?
Yep! Throw it all in! Can always run through a strainer if it feels to chunky for you.
Breakfast cocktails that are amazing! http://t.co/jWbTC9UW
I’m a newbee so this is the first recipe and drinking this now but I think I need a larger tomato than what I used. It is good though and love the kick from the cayenne pepper.
