Fall classes are filling up quickly and only running for a couple months. Don’t miss out on the class of your choice. Register early to make sure you get in on the goodness. And don’t miss this week’s Green Giveaway.
Raise your hand if you are glowing from that group cleanse? Green Smoothies delight! The best part of a green smoothie cleanse, for me, is that even though I may be eating my meals on my own, I know that oodles of peeps around the world are eating/drinking the same thing as me. There is a delicious sense of community that comes from sharing a meal. That for sure is my fave part of my classes.
For most of us, these days, our meals are eaten alone, often in front of the computer or TV, sometimes in the car, usually with little love, care or attention to either the food we’re eating and how we are consuming it.
For me, one of the best treats of the week when I am in teaching mode is getting to chit chat and with this wonderful assortment of peeps with all kinds of backgrounds but have somehow all ended up in my kitchen.
We cook with joy and great energy and eat slowly, enjoying the amazing healthful food that we prepared together. That is community! And there was never a single conversation around calories, body weight, negative comments on personal appearance or negative feelings around food in general. We eat well, and we feel great.
Perhaps equal to if not greater than the actual healthfulness of the meals we share, is the sweet joy and positivity that surrounds the relaxed eating environment. Simple enough- giving ourselves time to eat, time to rest, to digest, and do so at a great big table with other like-minded, positive people.
If I could bottle that health building magic and sell it as a supplement, well, I might find myself out of a job soon. Alas, I can’t. What I can do though is offer the vibe in my kitchen. So… come by and learn, cook, eat, laugh and rest to digest with me!

When I was living in Ecuador, my fellow teachers and I used to have the most fabulous potlucks. They always required minimal planning, yet somehow there was always a perfect balance of dishes. The meals would last for hours and we would talk and laugh like crazy. It always amazes me that eating a meal together seems to be such an effective way to bond with others.
Having attended meals at your table, I can attest that your kitchen is a perfect environment for this bonding! That is, when people aren’t too focused on the delicious food to talk!
You are so sweet Alex! Hope the cooking is going wonderfully.
I love thanksgiving with family. I am blessed to have 3 very differant families to celebrate with. My mom’s side, dads side and my boyfriends family…who is really my family now after 13 years!!
I love thanksgiving because there is no stress about what to get people. It is just family getting together, chating and eating good food ;o)
I also loving going to healthy cooking classes. It is great meeting like minded people and eating amazing food! I am going to try and make it to one of yours.
Family dinners with stress of gifts is nice- My family doesn’t really do the holiday gift thing- mainly because we all hate shopping so it makes it easy.
For the past 2 1/2 years, my husband and I have been on separate sides of the States, while he finished up his final two years in the Marine Corps-he in California, me and the kids in North Carolina. For Christmas of 2008, my husband drove into LA to meet my parents and sister. My Mum cooked in Cal, I cooked in NC and we all ate dinner together via Skype. Unfortunately, I couldn’t eat my Mum’s roast potatoes(something I’ve haven’t mastered yet), but she did send my Christmas Pudding early so I was able to eat that with her.
An across-country family dinner via Skype is the sweetest thing I’ve heard in a very long time! I hope you and your family get to celebrate your mastery of your mum’s roast potatoes in the same room sometime soon
That is such a great story.
