Fall classes are filling up quickly and only running for a couple months. Don’t miss out on the class of your choice. Register early to make sure you get in on the goodness. And don’t miss this week’s Green Giveaway (see below for details!)
This is the fourth or maybe fifth time I have done this cleanse and everytime I miss the same thing. Crunching! I miss chewing. The toughest is when I used to try out the eight or ten day juice fasts and then even when you start eating food, you have to ease yourself back on to the solids. I don’t know about you, but in the last three days, what I found the toughest on the Green Smoothie Cleanse was putting all these fresh, organic veggies into the blender without being able to crunch their goodness.
My first meal post cleanse is a salad. I am transitioning out, as I went in which makes today an all raw day. Raw, raw for raw.
I opted to have the ingredients of a smoothie- before it ran through the blender. In following the Rainbow rules, I ensured the majority was green, but that there was a still a healthy variety of colour in there too.
Keeping today’s post short and sweet (like me), here is my Unsmoothied Fresh Crunchy Salad with some high omega 3 protein from hemp and chia seeds.
Crunchy Salad Bowl

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: None
Ingredients (Serves 1)
For the Salad
- 6 leaves romaine lettuce, chopped
- 1 carrot, grated (we know I hate disks of carrot in my salad)
- 1/3 cup sliced cucumber
- 1/4 of an apple sliced
- 2 Tbs cranberries
- 1 Tbs hemp seeds
- 1 Tbs Chia seeds
- 2 Tbs Pomegranate seeds
For the Dressing
- 1/2 lemon, juiced
- 1 Tbs flax oil
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- pinch of sea salt
- 2 tsp honey
Instructions
Mix the romaine lettuce, grated carrot, sliced cucumber, sliced apple, cranberries, hemp, chia and pomegranate seeds together in a large bowl.
In a separate bowl, whisk the lemon, flax oil, Dijon, salt and honey. Add the dressing to the salad and toss to combine.

I’m not sure if it was just because it was the weekend, but I really missed having a nice soft-boiled egg for breakfast! Not much chewing going on there, but just a nice Sunday morning ritual that was foregone for a deelish smoothie.
I really miss some gluten free crackers when I am detoxing. Crunch, crunch, crunch
loved the cleanse — as usual! Yes, I miss the crunching too — of some nuts and fresh veggies and fruits. My doctor carries some of the progressive products — and Vege Greens is one of them.
hummas and veggies!
Get yourself a spiral slicer. They’re fun to use and might make carrots more tolerable for you. It’s what raw foodists use to make vegetable “noodles”. My dinner on Friday was sweet potato “noodles” with garlic scape pesto.
Progressive is one of my favourite brands, up there with Now Foods. I don’t remember if I’ve used their greens before (though I sort of think so) but I have the Trader Joe’s Super Green Drink Powder, really like it, and the ingredient list is similar. Having looked at Progressive’s ingredient list, I’ll be less sad when my TJ equivalent is gone.
As for the QOTD: Cheese. I go through phases in which I want to put cheese on everything. When I stopped eating meat products (except fish) I also decided that despite the fact cheese/dairy falls into the primary reason I stopped eating meat (factory farms), I couldn’t give it up.
Two ingredients in the VegeGreens: Apple pectin, milk thistle extract.
If I tweet about these contests and my tweets appear in my blog, does that count as mentioning it in my blog? My blog can’t be all Meghan, all the time.
homemade granola. crunch plus (healthy, whole) carbs, is what I miss.
I miss toast.hehe…I’m totally serious.LOVE it:-)cc
I also miss the crunch! I really like to chew. That’s why I love raw veggies- crunchy carrots and crispy lettuce and all that fun stuff.
Miss biting into fresh juicy fruit. Two ingredients in VeggeGreens: Dandelion Extract and Pumpkin Seed Oil.

I miss eating delicious salads when I’m just drinking them.
Two ingredients in VegeGreens: spirulina and chlorella. Green!
I totally agree about the crunching – my mouth was missing all the action. Toward the end of my last cleanse I did not have any desire to eat “naughty” food but rather a overwhelming desire to chow down big crispy green leaves and huge chunks of pinapple and watermelon. Even when I went back to eating solid foods I found myself craving greens and would eat them raw by the handfuls; it is funny what you hear your body asking for when you really cleanse your system and start to listen more closely.
So true!!!
I definitely miss my yogurt the most when I do this cleanse.
I saw your comment over on Hello Veggie. Love your site and info here, tons of great stuff. Too bad I arrived late on the green smoothie challenge!
Actually, I really miss snacking on Meghan’s Superballs, and Elana’s Power Bars – new staples in my house!
kelp and celery
I did the 3 day green smoothie cleanse and I really missed biting into an apple. Usually I miss chocolate but now I have raw cacao. I heart raw cacao.
I truly heart raw cacao too.
Hi Meghan & Team,
I’m in the midst of purchasing some supplements for my mom. Have you tried VegeGreens and would recommend it? Any insight would be great! Thanks!
