Green Smoothie Cleanse countdown is on! We’re hitting it as a group on Friday so get your tutorial now and get ready for three days that will change your life and lighten your load. Don’t miss the Vitamix incentive. That too could change your life… actually, I know it will!
When was the last time you took the time to smell the flowers? It is very easy to get caught up in all the details of healthy living- you know the whole balanced meal, daily exercise, pop the supplements thing. I’ll admit that I often fall victim to the day-to-day healthy living practices thing and fail to follow along with many of the emotional health stuff. The fun, if you will. The playing.
My friend Adam, a comedian, has a part in his show about getting dizzy. Asking when you last got an airplane ride or spun around until you felt dizzy.
I know as I cheer and rah-rah-rah over the Green Smoothie Cleanse it is easy to want to follow all the rules, get the best foods, blend the best drinks, sleep the best sleeps but we mustn’t forget that there is so much more to health than just eating the best food.
Let me ask you this… What is your favourite hobby? Do we even have hobbies anymore? We all need other things in our lives to create TOTAL health.
So as we count down to the start of the Green Smoothie Cleanse, let me ask you this, what activities nourish you?
Here are some of my tips, from this post that I wrote a year ago about staying healthy that has nothing to do with what you eat.
Meghan’s Guide To Making Love Outside The Kitchen
Cry Over Spilled Milk
- When we keep it in we get sick. Emotions and feelings that are repressed, will end in illness in one form or another. We all have our inherent weaknesses but there is no need to find out what those weaknesses are. Talk it out, share feelings, and most importantly, be real about what you’re feeling.
Follow Your Gut and Make The Decision
- My friend Jay always says to me “When there’s doubt, there’s no doubt”. If we follow our instinct, we will never have to make another decision again in our life.
Create Solutions and Make Peace With Them
- We may choose to view ourselves as victims of circumstance but for the most part, we create our circumstance and therefore have the power to change it. Positive change results from positive action. Negative circumstance results from negative reaction.
A Cute Outfit Means Nothing If You Feel Like Shit
- We’ll spend more money on a consultation for colours to paint our walls than on consultations to resolve our health issues. People who hide from reality and pretend like everything is sunshiney, glossy and perfect all the time are those in the most pain. It’s okay to have bad days.
It Is What It Is
- Acceptance of ourselves- our appearance, our relationships, our health, our family, our friends… We must accept things just as they are. Refusing acceptance is the surest way to create our own suffering. If we can simply accept things as they are, we begin to eliminate negative emotions from our lives that include jealousy, envy, competition, criticism, destruction and dissatisfaction.
Laughter Is The Best Medicine
- When was the last time you had a good laugh? The kind where you can’t catch your breath and tears are rolling down your cheeks? If you can’t remember it has been way too long.
Another of my absolute fave things for helping me feel super powered healthy from top to bottom, is of course, meditation.

Dancing in the sun nourishes me
And eating freshly picked berries
Dancing in the rain is fun too
Such great advice! My favourite is “it is what it is” love it.
ps. super adorable pic!
GREAT POST MEGHAN!!! Love it!
Things that nourish me; yoga, meditation, sunshine, reading a great book, a great cup of tea, cooking and good music!!
Amazing Pic!! Love sunflowers!!
Knitting nourishes me. Knitting is relaxing for me. I get lost in my knitting and I think it is for me what meditation must be like for others (I have never tried it). I am currently knitting socks, socks and more socks, so in the end I have had a wonderfully relaxing time and I have a beautiful pair of socks for myself or to give away as a gift. How rewarding is that !
Love it!
Totally! I’m with you 100%. Knitting teaches patience, craftsladyship, appreciation of beauty in small things and a million other things all while you make something useful or beautiful for someone you love (including yourself, of course).
Any sort of outdoor sport (and I use “sport” loosely – my family paddles only when necessary, and I bring books with me on long bike rides so I can properly appreciate a view) will also even me out and get my perspective back in whack.
Snuggling with my sweet pups nourishes me
What a beautiful list of how to stay healthy & loving outside of food
I need those reminders everyday–it’s just too easy to get caught up in the day to day.
Using my bike to run errands nourishes me. The feeling of self-reliance is great! I love this post
There are many things that nourish me, but riding my bike has an immediate effect for me. Even at my grumpiest, as soon as I hop on my bike I feel like a kid again. I just can’t be grumpy on my bike!
Yes!!! Love this, health is so much more than food!! I guess this has to do with food but cooking nourishes me. The art of it, the smells and tastes, chopping…everything about it makes me so happy! I also love photography, being outside in the sun, yoga, and getting silly with my friends.
I was actually going to buy your guided meditation so if I could win it that would be even more special.
I follow you on twitter and am a fan on Facebook.
taking long walks in the woods at my parents’ cabin….
Cups of tea, long bike rides, trips to the farmer’s market, being on farms, especially around horses, walking down to the lake and just sitting on the rocks listening to the water, cuddling and time spent with friends.
I’m a fan on Facebook.
I love jumping on the trampoline with my nieces or cuddling with my kitties:-)cc
Listening to great music, having a cup of tea, writing in my journal and a healthy meal are some of the things that make me feel nourished….
Those all would work well!
Walking my dog nourishes me – it takes so little to make your animal so happy
Spending a morning lying in bed reading.
That is one of my all time favourites. Been doing much of it during my summer holiday.
Yoga and meditation nourish me, and so does spending time with people I love.
Yep. I’ll join you on that.
I follow you on twitter (@sheisarunner)
Great post! Taking care of my plants nourish me
I tried that. It nourished me but seemed to kill them
i am nourished by sunshine & sleep– even the two together!
Best cocktail ever!
i follow you on twitter @ellen1214
Great post! Things that nourish me: cooking, produce, exercise, and long talks with my fiance
Until this summer I had no hobbies. I worked, I went to the gym, and I watched TV. This summer I discovered my love for gardening and making jewelry. I turned my balcony into a jungle and opened an Etsy shop.

I feel like I have interests and passions now, and as nerdy as it sounds, my flowers and homegrown tomatoes make me sooo happy
Nerdy is cool! I am with you on both. I often think of opening an Etsy shop but then I hear a voice in my head saying “Do you really need another project”?
I am here on your page because I am new to discovering what nourishes me! Mom’s of young children tend to put themselves last and I have decided that in order for my kids to be happy & healthy than I need to learn to be healthy by eating right and finding thngs that I enjoy on my own. Just ordered my first yoga dvd & some books for myself that aren’t children related! I am going to give those a try along with learning great things to throw in my vitamix that previously was only used for fruit smoothies! Thanks for your site!
Welcome Jenny! Great work on making yourself a priority. Now… go get a massage
My nourishment is waking up rested and snuggled in my bed, reading silly books and dancing… I have lots of hobbies that nourish me but they’ve gotten no time recently, been working on fixing that!
Shannon- I think we were meant to be best friends
I would love a copy of the program!
Long walks, long showers, laughing with friends, cooking with friends.
(Check my blog post from Saturday. You get a brief mention and you can watch video of David K playing with his food.)
I’d already done a post about the cleanse today but I’ve edited it to mention this contest. My blog can’t be all Meghan, all the time. That’s what YOUR blog is for.
Let’s see — I’m nourished by the basics — sunshine and sleep. Having 3 kids means I don’t get much time to myself, but if I can get some sun and sleep, I’m good to go!
Would love to win a copy of your meditations
Thanks!
I follow you on twitter.
i joined your fb fan page.
What nourishes me… I have no shame when it comes to me time. The best me time involves opening all the windows in the house and enjoying the fresh air with a good book and a big mug of hot tea. Also, hugs.
)
Working in my garden, harvesting my herbs and vegees, taking a swim, walking my dog and Kauai.

Hello, its really nice and valuable information. i think yoga and meditation on daily routine is also an effective way for good health.
just learned that sunflowers attract bees. will definitely be planting some next year. will gladly join your facebook fans.
Nourishing… I copy my entry from FB over here: Taking a walk in the woods with my boyfriend, swimming in the lake, training (kickboxing – nothing so good for getting really powered out), getting lost in a good book, meditate.
And I want to add: animals. The dogs of my boyfriend’s family, my cat – whenever I have the chance to be around animals, I feel so much more at peace. And being at peace definitely nourishes me
[...] You remember the contest we once had for one of Meghan‘s tutorials? There’s another one, this time not for a nutritional tutorial – or, well, not in a food way, anyway – but for a meditation program. Check this out: There’s more to health than just food. [...]

sitting at my desk with a paintbrush in hand and a fresh new canvas in front of me is what nourishes me!
Share your work! Would love to see what you create.
My family. I gave up a lot to have a family but at this stage it feels like I gave up what drained me and gained sooooo much more.
I love the sounds of that.

The three biggest things to nourish me…..
Being anywhere in nature that involves shutting out the world and hearing nature at it’s best. I could be sitting, meditating, walking, swimming anywhere.
Sitting outside eating breakfast watching the birds on the feeder(or yoga for that matter-me doing the yoga, not the birds).
Baking.
I’m on twitter and on the new FB page.
Thanks!
Playing the piano transports me to another world where I am relaxed and unaware of what is going on around me. Also, petting my cats totally nourishes me at some deep, emotional level.
