I am interrupting all this Green Smoothie Goodness to share with you a little hot and bothered cookie drama.
Yesterday, on a rare visit to the east side of the city, I found myself at the Riverdale Farmer’s Market where I had the sweet opportunity to meet the head chiquitta behind the city’s best vegan (and non-vegan) baked wholesomeness, LPK’s Culinery Groove. Dear me are her sweet treats amazing.
We got to chatting and she revealed the excitement stirring in the city around cookies. LPK’s Culinary Groove is in a race for spicy cookie champion. I sampled the goods and yep- the editor in chief of Gourmet Magazine was right when she tweeted about these Spicy Chèvre Noir Shortbread Cookie™. They are unreal! Sweet. Spicy. A hint of salt.
Vote now and vote often (from different computers). These cookies are in competition in Harbourfront’s “Best Spicy Dessert in Toronto” contest as part of their Hot and Spicy Food Festival taking place mid-August.
Now of course we all have our own taste buds. So don’t take my word for it. Try the cookies yourself available, at LPK’s Culinary Groove shop on Queen East and at farmer’s markets across the city.
These cookies are addictive. You have been warned.
Here is the tale of the cookies as told on LPK’s Culinary Groove Facebook Page:
Once upon a time, there was a Little Punk Kid who wanted to open up a groovy pastry shop on Queen St. E. She enlisted the help of friends and family, including two other little pastry chefs. One day while testing loads of deelish recipes, the three little pastry chefs decided to try making a sp…icy shortbread with fall spices. Sadly, it was crap!
Not ones to be discouraged however, they decided to go on a journey to the land of Chocosol near the river Yonge on the banks of St. Joseph. There they were introduced to many delicious exotic foods, including the piquino chili. LPK beamed with delight as she envisioned this smoky, bold an…d flavourful chili paired perfectly with one of her favourite foods – Chevre Noir goat cheddar!
The little pastry chefs headed back to the land of Groove and baked up a storm, until on the 7th golden try, ta-da – the Spicy Chèvre Noir Shortbread Cookie was born! The three little pastry chefs squealed with glee, knowing they had been part of creating something exciting, wonderful and powerful. They shared this …new found savoury little gem with all their friends and family, who found it delightfully addictive…
Visit LPK’s Culinary Groove Facebook Page for the rest of the story.

Your blog is great and I’d love to win the Green Smoothie Cleanse tutorial!
Spicy cookies sound right up my alley! I’m going to have to give the idea a whirl soon!
Oh yes, these cookies are SOOOO good and right by my place! I have to work hard not to get them ALL THE TIME!
Aw, since I’m a student and don’t have lots of money left for books, I have to stick to making the Green Pina Colada and Mojito and besides that, just use my creativity (results are good sometimes
). So maybe there’s some luck here.
Curious thing about green smoothies: while I find chewing regular food well difficult, I have not such a problem with the smoothie; in fact, I can’t swallow before having chewed every single sip thoroughly.
Oh, and a doubt I’ve had for a long time: What about food combining? And I don’t mean combining in the traditional sense (I’d better say food mixing), but rather: lets’s say I have eaten some bad stuff, would it be good to add some healthy foods to help minimize the damage? Or does this not work and it’s better to wait in such cases? And the other way around, when I’ve had something really good, a smoothie for example, should I wait some time before eating something not so healthy? If yes, any recommended time? I have this paranoia that unhealthy food can completely spoil the benefits of the healthy one when eaten at the same time; this makes the process of eating better no fun sometimes.
Besides that, thanks for the entries on your blog, Meghan, they help me not to resign to the conventional diet which seems to be considered canon here by virtually everyone.
Meghan – You’ve got a dream job and you’re using it to bring health to the people. I’ve been admiring your webpage and business from afar for the past year and all I can say is, You GO Girl! I’ve had a (small-ish) resurgance of gastro distress and reading your blog has got me fired up to rededicate myself to my health. Thanks for being such a great inspiration – nutritionally and vocationally.
Meaghan- I can only imagine the number of times you have had to spell your name for people. Thank you so much for your sweetness- sending healing tummy vibes over your way.
Thanks for the tummy vibes. And, yes, it’s m-e-a-g-h-a-n every single time, only to have them say “Meegan?”
Hey, you just have to go with the flow, right?
Yep- My old boyfriend told me I had an “h” in my name because of all the heart. Go with it!
I agree with Meaghan: Meghan — you really do have a dream job
Yes. Yes I do. Well- at least it’s the job of my own dreams.
Those cookies sound really yummy. Too bad I’m in the states! Thanks for the fun post!
I have gained about 25 lbs since I turned 40. All those processed foods finally caught up with me, I guess. So now I need to change my eating habits. Lots of great info on your site.
