The Green Smoothie Cleanse: 2nd Edition will be available tomorrow. Celebrate good times come on. Let’s get lean and sweetly green. This is so exciting! This is so exciting (I am going the running man right now, that’s how exciting this is). All week we are giving away copies. One-a-day. All you have to do is leave a comment (and maybe join my new Fan Page if you want to)

As generally healthy eating peeps (I give you the benefit of the doubt because you’re reading me), we are freaking ridiconculously crazified for kale chips. We really are.

We are all over these raw treats. Kale chips are awesome and we love the idea of drinking fresh veggie  juices everyday and then taking all that pulp to make the most amazing raw crackers. Then, in our minds, we see ourselves munching on our home grown sprouts, while our liver sings us love songs and our intestines wave their celebratory fibre flags of victory.

It’s a nice image we have of this super powered raw life but do you know what holds us back? Well, what holds me back sometimes is the crazy amount of work. It takes a full head of kale and about 5 hours to properly dehydrate a great snack of kale chips. It can take up to ten hours to fully dry out some raw crackers. Cleaning a juicer is a pain in the booty-bottom and as if we are going to salvage all that pulp every time to make the aforementioned raw crackers.

Well- you know what? Sometimes I do. And I love it. I really do, and I feel really amazing when I do. But I don’t write this blog day after day as a means of converting you to how I live. I am not offering a Green Smoothie Cleanse (on sale tomorrow) because I am telling you the way you live now is wrong. No, no, no!

What I am trying to do is make it easy. A green smoothie (did I mention the new book is available tomorrow?) is like the health benefits of veggie juice, kale chips and raw crackers all rolled into one easy machine. Wash, cut, blend, drink, listen for the liver love songs and intestinal flag waving celebrations.

It is the heart of the summer and it is haaaaawt like kitchen with two stoves in July (that would be my kitchen), let’s make it easy as can be.

So I have my super hero cape flying in the wind with a giant “E” for easy (don’t get any ideas here) because that is what I am here to do and do you know who is flying beside me? Two Girls Cooking! That’s right!

These sasstastic ladies who are of the same school of thought as moi (seriously- we went to the same nutrition school) are helping you to eat your kale chips and raw crackers, helping your liver sing you love songs and your intestines to wave flags of fibre joy- because they are doing the work for us. E- for Easy my green lovers. E for easy.

    Hi Megahn,

my favourite raw food is raw pasta with marinara sauce. I make the raw pasta with zucchini noodles with help of little gadget called the Saladacco Spiral Slicer.
I love it especially in the summer heat. Light and delicious.

    Hi Meghan,
great give-away! Is it open to international readers?
Anyway, my favorite raw treat is a RED smoothie. Essential ingredients are frozen cherries, cucumber, lemon juice, soaked goji berries, and I might throw in some romaine, mint and hemp powder (and of course anything else I have lying around that would harmonize with the other ingredients).

  3. Anna Tulou says:

I’ve been gushing about raw muesli all during the recent hot weather here in Virginia. For one serving, the night before, put 3/4 cup rolled oats in a bowl, cover it with water, and stir in 1/2 tsp raw plain yogurt. Cover and let sit on the counter overnight. In the morning, add in fresh or dried fruits, raw nuts, more yogurt if you like, and a touch of your preferred sweetener. It’s a wonderful, nurturing raw and cooling cereal bowl – simply divine.

  4. Ricki says:

It’s so hard to choose–but I love, love raw kale salad (the classic massaged with avocado) and also what I call “LaRaw Bars” or cocoa nibbles, my version of a Larabar. Yum! I am dying to try these gals’ stuff, especially since they are local. :)

  5. Ricki says:

I already follow you on twitter (not sure if you wanted us to mention this separately?).

  6. I too am voting for massaged raw kale salad, with lemon juice, olive oil, and a bit of sea salt.

  7. Jen says:

Salad. Plain and simple loaded with fresh veggies.

  8. Andie says:

My favourite new raw recipe is raw date cookies! I tossed dates, walnuts, cranberries and some seeds into my food processor, whirred until blended and then rolled them into balls. I took them to a party and they got a lot of love!

  9. Andie says:

And those Mexican Beet Fiesta crisps sound amazing!

  12. Tina says:

Hi Meghan! I have just started on a raw vegan diet – 3 weeks in! What has really kept me going is the smoothies. My fave is 2 stalks of celery, a cup of kale, handful of sprouts, a few chunks of pineapple, a banana, 1/4 cup carrot juice, 1/4 cup water, 2 tbsp hemp protein powder and a generous amount of cinnamon! And thanks to you I am now throwing in goji berries as well =)

  13. Aletheia says:

It’s just funny when you realize that eating an apple is raw, too.

    E for easy. :-)

If I had to pretend to be an elegant raw foodist, then I’d say chocomole. Mash up a jumbo avocado (not the hass kind–the jumbo kind), add in a half cup of cocoa, and a 1/4 tbsp of sucanat. Enjoy with Endorphins.

    E for Endorphins.

    xo Aletheia

Oh MAN I need to win this one! I have a leg-hugging 15 month old who makes it HARD to get any work done in the kitchen, especially things requiring ovens or blenders (still not sure how I’m gonna manage the green smoothie cleanse that I’m so looking forward to!) So you better believe I’ll be entering to win as many ways as possible!

My fave raw food is probably the kale chips. And the aforementioned 15 month old loves them, too! If only I had time to make them more than once in a blue moon.

  24. My fav raw recipe so far is the Banana Lemon Pie that I made in my raw food course, the recipe is here http://www.rawrose.com/Banana_Lemon_Pie.htm

  32. Lazarus says:

My fav raw snack of late is a coconut shake! One young coconut (flesh and water), one date, small handful of pecans/walnuts or almonds, and cinnamon!
Add ice for a nice cold treat …perhaps a vanilla bean if I’m feeling extravagant!
    Blend and enjoy!
Soooooooo ymmmmy! I’m drinking one as I speak! …ur… write.
    Cheers!

  33. Sarah L. says:

My fave raw food is definitely my daily, morning green smoothie…which varies based on what’s in season and in my fridge. Followed closely by kale chips, of course!

  34. anne says:

Favorite food right now in the heat? And low prep time too? Cucumber! Sliced diagonally and drizzled with coconut oil – yum.

  35. Sarah L. says:

I visited the Cooking Girls website and beet and mexican spices? Yes please. can’t wait to try those crackers.

  38. Rachel says:

I visited their site and would definitely love to try the better than cheddar kale chips! As far as raw food goes, I love dried tart cherries – so good! They also go really well with some almonds when I’m not in a super sweet mood, but still need my cherry fix!

  39. Jody says:

Raw chocolate how can you go wrong – coconut oil, raw cacao, and honey to sweeten. Put into molds and into the fridge. How could it be simplier. You need to eat it straight from the fridge as it will melt. Sorry I eyeball it all so I don’t have the exact measurements – but you can sample as you make it. (If your coconut is in a solid state you’ll need to melt it over some hot water – it doesn’t take long.)

  40. Stephanie says:

My fav raw food is a pluot…well, really any seasonal stone fruit but I have a special place in my heart for the pluot. But I call them plupricots because that’s just so much more fun to say :-)

Also wonderful: dried cherries, raw cashews, dates, and cacao nibs. As a trail mix, as a smoothie (need a vita for that!), as a lara style bar…I just love the combo.

Oh! And sunflower seed sprouts! Tossed with a little shreddedd carrot, lemon juice, sea salt, and tahini…perfect. Just perfect.

  44. elaine says:

My favorite raw food has to be grape tomatoes when they’re in season, which lucky for me is right now! I hustle my butt to the farmer’s market every wed and sun to load up on these DELISH tomaters and thank the good earth and the farmers for providing such wonderfulness!

  45. elaine says:

I would love to try the Better than Cheddar Kale Chips! I love how theirs are different from others in that they don’t use nuts, which sometimes can be hard on my digestion.

  46. Maida says:

    Great giveaway!

If I’m eating out (or if someone else is slaving away for days preparing a meal for me), my favorite raw dish is the raw enchiladas from Cafe Gratitude in San Francisco. While I do own their cookbook and could make these myself at home, it’s just so labor intensive that I haven’t even attempted it yet. They are super delicious, though– a dehydrated veggie “tortilla” loaded up with a sprouted seed filling.

If I’m making it myself at home, my favorite thing to make is either a smoothie or a juice. I’m lazy. :)

  52. Celestial says:

my fave green smoothie is spinach, coconut water, orange, pea sprouts and half a frozen bananer! yum.

  53. willow says:

In all reality, I heart any and all fresh veggies – I haven’t met one I don’t like. (Really!) But if we’re talking a ‘raw’ food that is ‘made’, I would say nuts and nut butters and any sauce or dip that is nut based….(gotta love the Vitamix for this purpose) Just give me some fruit & veggies to dip in or spread on and I am happy as a clam!

I would love love love to win a copy of your new book!
