Kale chips are kinda gearing towards the crack of healthy food addicts. Is that terribly un-PC to say? I’m over it. These crispy, crunchy, light and tasty flavour absorbers are just so gosh-darnitt delicious that when I started experimenting with them, well, I just couldn’t stop. You know how that song goes? Right? I believe I must use the stylings of Depeche Mode to truly describe how I feel…
We walk together, we’re walking down the street
And I just can’t get enough, I just can’t get enough
Every time I think of you I know we have to meet
And I just can’t get enough, I just can’t get enough
It’s getting hotter, it’s a burning love
And I just can’t seem to get enough….
See, kale chips are just the perfect food. Anytime, anywhere. On the go or at home. I just can’t get enough. So after days and weeks and many heads of kale later, I present to you the grand finale. Way 5 of Kale Chips 5 Ways. To recap:
- Way One: Lemon and Olive Oil
- Way Two: Asian Spiced
- Way Three: Macro-Japan
- Way Four: Nacho Cheeseless
And now, way five (blow those trumpets, wave those flags!)…
Sour Cream and Onion Free Kale Chips
1 Head of Kale
2 Tbs apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup raw cashews
pinch of sea salt
1/4 cup water (or just as much as you need to make this mix creamy)
- Place all marinade ingredients in a blender or food processor and process until smooth. Add water as needed just in order to blend. Remember- you will be drying this out again after so you want to avoid doing this as much as you can.
- With your hands, mix together the marinade, massaging gently.
- Transfer to dehydrator rack or parchment lined baking sheet
- Stick in your dehydrator on medium-high setting or in your oven on its lowest temperature with the oven door left slightly open
In the dehydrator it will take about 4-5 hours for them to reach the perfect crunchiness. Drying times will vary in an oven.
