It’s no secret that I heart colour to bits. Remember this picture from my post on soap nuts?
When it comes to the diet, a rainbow does more than just look pretty as can be. Now, I think at this point it is pretty clear that I heart green the best- hence my awesome town Green Smoothie Cleanse coming up on Friday. Not only is green the colour of many of our everyday superfoods like leafy greens, but also the colour of the heart chakra. Hmmm imagine that. Eating more greens = feeling healthier =feeling happier = oodles of love! What if my newest love potion was actually one green smoothie a day. Seems to be working in my life! Just sayin’, don’t knock it ’till you try it.
I am, however, an equal colour eater. I like to give love to the full spectrum of the rainbow. As I wrote last year, here is a little reminder:
Green Foods – broccoli, kale, leaf and romaine lettuce, spinach, cabbage and Brussels sprouts.
- especially good for the circulatory system, contain many minerals and B-complex vitamins, contain powerful anti-cancer compounds.
Red Foods – tomatoes, watermelon, red cabbage.
- contain many phytochemicals that reduce free radical damage, lycopene is especially helpful in preventing prostate problems, and reduce the effects of sun damage on the skin.
Orange Foods – carrots, pumpkin, squash, sweet potatoes, apricots, cantaloupe.
- have the carotenoids that help prevent cancer by repairing the DNA, especially good for our eyes, and help with night vision, help our bodies get the vitamin A we need, without getting excess that can lead to osteoporosis.
Green/Yellow Foods – yellow corn, green peas, collard greens, avocado and honeydew melon.
- contains the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin that help reduce the risk of developing cataracts and macular degeneration, helpful in reducing the risk of osteoporosis.
Orange /Yellow Foods – oranges, pineapple, tangerines, peaches, papaya, nectarines
- high in antioxidants, especially Vitamin C which helps to improve the health of the mucus membranes and connective tissue, improve circulation and prevent inflammation.
White/Green Foods – onions, garlic, celery, pears, chives
- Garlic and onions contain allicin, the anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal phytochemical, and they can act as a poor man’s antibiotic, mineralsthat keeps the fluid in the joints healthy
Red/Blue/Purple Foods – apples, beets, blueberries, strawberries, cranberries, blackberries.
- rich in powerful antioxidants that protect against heart disease by improving circulation and preventing blood clots, anti-aging phytochemicals that keep the blood circulating
In your own diet, do you tend towards a certain colour of food? Have you noticed you eat more of a certain colour when you feel a certain way? Do you opt for purple cauliflower over white when both are up for offer? Green apples or red? White onions or red? Red peppers or orange? Purple cabbage or green? So many choices!

I am already a LOVER of green smoothies!
If I took of a photo of my clothes like that it would be black, white, and grey.
Just last week when the weather was gorgeous I thought about how much I wished I were wearing a BRIGHT YELLOW shirt. Alas, I don’t have one
Hee hee, I can see your undies!
My fave colour for food AND outfits is green…and hmmm, I’ve got a lotta love in my life too…
I definitely choose colourful food over white foods, all other things being equal. I recently tried a purple potato, and I couldn’t get over the gorgeous colour! Come to think of it, purple foods really turn my crank, too. I love purple cabbage, figs, purple kale, and I could stare deeply into a blackberry for hours (maybe an exaggeration).
I swear I commented on this earlier today? What happened??
I <3 colour in my food and my clothes!!
