I will tell you right now, this is not the post that was meant to go up today. But I have spent every waking hour, not at the yoga show, prepping my new tutorial to be released on Thursday and oh is it fantastic. So instead I will take this opportunity to promote this fantastic event!

Three things are for sure.

  1. If it weren’t for David Wolfe I am pretty sure I wouldn’t have been able to identify this as a pod of chocolate in the Caribbean Rain Forest
  2. If it weren’t for David Wolfe, I am pretty sure Josh and I wouldn’t have gone Mushroom hunting in the Northern Ontario woods in the middle of Winter
  3. David Wolfe’s party tricks are so much better than mine. He drinks honey.

That’s right. Straight from the jar. We crave sugar for many reasons. Commonly though, the reasons have to do with adrenal fatigue and our addiction to the powerful stress chemicals released by our adrenal glands when our blood sugar plummets.  Often our cravings for sweets have to so with little critters that are in our body. Perhaps they are yeasts, perhaps they are other forms of bad bacteria, or maybe, just maybe, they are something commonly referred to as ‘parasites’. There I said it. I’m allowed to say it. David Wolfe is not. Ask him about that sometime if you ever have the chance.

These little critters feed on sugars and we keep on feeding them. People have been emailing me and tweeting and commenting about whether a little sweet fruit is okay or a little sugar here and there is okay while we try and battle out these cravings. The truth (tough-love warning) is that until we clear the bad guys out, as long we keep feeding them, any small amount, they will keep breeding and keep us craving more.

Gabriel Cousens, an amazing leader in the raw foods movement talks about our internal compost bins that we feed and keep churning with all the sweets that we consume. Even the candida protocol I learned in school requires a full six months away from these sweet critter feeders. Flicking off that composting switch, starving off the critters or halting that caboose is no easy task.

The thing is, once we are in balance, once our bodies are all ripped rapped healthy and strong, we can handle it all. We can show off our party tricks like drinking honey. Of all the people I have met in my short career as a nutritionist, and there have been many (Brian Clement, Elson Haas, Sally Fallon, Gabriel Cousens to name a few) no one has inspired me as much as David Wolfe.

David Wolfe will be in Toronto on April 10th doing an evening lecture on Spring Cleansing and Renewal. Event details here. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you check this out. He will take your healthy living to an awesome level- not to mention getting to meet and mingle with some of the greatest players in Toronto’s nutrition and raw food community including:

RawNaturals
Aum My Goddess
E3Live
Essen Health Bread
Fairy’s Tonic Kombucha

And now you may still be wondering what my party tricks are. I can keep some things a secret can’t I? Not really. I will tell you a different secret tomorrow.

Watch out for Thursday!!!  The new tutorial is about to be released and it is so good that I have named it The Mayor of Awesome-Town. Be sure to check in and find out.

    Ahhh! The suspense!

I am thinking of investing in some DW literature…What would you say is his best book?

Right now I’m staring down my fruit bowl. Going 6 months without apples seems like a HUGE challenge. Then again, Ontario’s awesome growing season is only a couple of months away. Once I have lovely fresh veggies to take their place, it might not be so bad!

  3. Meghan –
You said it, you keep saying it! Sugar is sugar is sugar. And you’re right.
If only David Wolfe were around more often — with such power in the room, you need so little additionally sweetness! I love his energy as well. He’s a great and inspiring speaker. I have to say though, there is nothing quite like a chocolate party thrown by Mr. Wolfe — speaking of cravings :)
There you go, the yin and the yang of it all…
Can’t wait for your new tutorial.

Haha, watch out — my friend Kathryn Borel has declared herself Mayor of Awesometown already (and even had it printed on her official CBC business card). But I look forward to the e-tutorial anyway!

So true about the sugar… my 4-year old daughter is dealing with Candida right now. She has been very good about knowing what foods she can’t have, but it gets very difficult if the whole family is having something (like some homemade dairy free ice cream). But oh, the cravings she has. I know it’s the critters wanting her to eat more and more. We’ve recently done a homeopathic heavy metal detox on her, and now doing a parasite cleanse… slow going process for sure.
I’m reading Body Ecology Diet by Donna Gates right now — very good book dealing with our inner ecology.
Wish I could join you all for the David Wolfe event! I’m sure you’ll write about it later, right? :) Off to make a green smoothie for lunch!!! YUM!
