5 Days Vegan starts Sunday! Are you in?
Happy feel great friday!
This Sunday, some of us are taking on a little bit of a health challenge. This is a challenge that I like to call 5 Days Vegan. The thing to remember, as we take on this challenge together, is that it doesn’t have to be an all or nothing thing. I can’t stress enough that when it comes to our health, every little bit helps and I am pretty sure that if you are reading this blog, you have an interest in making a few changes here and there.
‘Oopsies’ will happen and all you can ever ask of yourself is simply to do the best you can on any given day, at any given moment and adding a little mindfulness to your actions regarding whether what you are doing is working you towards your goals or away from them.
How did I get so wise as to offer such sage advice? I fake it. Sort of. Up there, in that one little paragraph, I summarized the amazing wisdom and knowledge that is shared in many more paragraphs by much wiser people in many inspiring works.
The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz is one such inspiring work. This was the first book of its kind that I ever got my hands on. I read it during the Summer of 2006 when my life was pretty much turned upside down by disease and dizzying lostness. I was up at my cottage, picked up the book and it suddenly opened my eyes to the understanding that life doesn’t have to be hard, or a struggle. I realized that the first step in easing up on the way I was living was easing up on my myself and how I let things that were external from me, affect my internal environment. Though I was unable to make the shift in being as rapidly as my understanding of the concepts were shifting, a shift did happen.
Don Miguel Ruiz and his son are sages of toltec wisdom. They have a gift with their words in making things that we make so complex in our own minds, read so simply and so practically. Whether intentionally, or unintentionally, the wisdom and lessons and freshness of The Four Agreements absolutely lend themselves to the healthiest way of living and the healthiest way of eating. Yesterday I joked about how a chocolate almond cup could actually hug you back, but in reality, when we are feeling really fantastic inside, we reach for such external stimulants and/or relaxants to provide what we can’t provide for ourselves.
The other day, when I was reading the newest book by Don Miguel Ruiz, The Fifth Agreement, I shared the agreements with a friend who jokingly responded, I don’t believe in that. We laughed and I offered him the challenge to go against each of the five agreements, that I would go with them and we could see who was happier and healthier at the end.
So my sweet little Vegan Adventurers and everyone else, as we embark on this little healthy living 5 Days Vegan challenge, why not think about making these new agreements with ourselves- as the kinder we are to ourselves, the kinder we will be to those around us.
So whether you are taking part in the 5 Days Vegan program or not, whether you took part in last weeks 10 Days Judgment Free Challenge, how about think about these agreements. These are tangible rules we can do our best to follow and again, the best only means what we are capable at any given moment.
1. Be Impeccable With Your Word
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.
3. Don’t Make Assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
4. Always Do Your Best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.

Silly question, but what’s the 5th agreement?
I love coincidences. I was talking on the phone yesterday with a dear friend who has spent the last two years in a living hell trying to get well…in and out of hospitals, in and out of treatment centers. He’s finally at peace and on the road to recovery and we talked about the four agreements. Then I open your wonderful blog today and there it is. And I haven’t thought about this for YEARS. Thank you Meghan
