I am not related to either of these peeps by blood but my friend Adam once told me that family is a feeling. I have therefore adopted uncle Michael and Auntie Oprah as my own. Did you see Michael Pollan on Oprah? I received roughly six phone calls telling me I should be watching this. Then of course was the inevitable call from my mom that went the way these kinds of calls always go:
“Meg, Michael Pollan is on Oprah. They’re saying just what you always say. You should get on Oprah”. Thanks mom!
Anyway, watch, learn and spread the good word. Though, now that we have Oprah on our team, I am thinking I might take the afternoon off and take a nap. The message is out and about. Booyah!. Can I get a ‘Heeeeeeeey!’

we taped it and watched thursday night — great that it is getting attention! Yeah for Oprah
I’m reading the book, Food Rules, right now.
I just saw Oprah show with Pollan at the library. Great interview!! I am reading Pollan’s books in reverse, so to speak. I’ve read Food Rules, just finished In Defense of Food and I am looking forward to reading The Omnivore’s Dilemma.
I was really getting tired of finding high fructose corn syrup in everything–from ketchup to rye bread. When I happened to see an ad for Food Rules and bought the book, it confirmed my dismay. And it’s a shame that real food–the produce that we should be eating instead of the junk at McDonald’s and elsewhere–isn’t federally subsidized as the soy, corn, wheat and rice that is.
In any case, as a new fan of grass fed beef and getting more veggies and fruit in my diet for the past two weeks, I really feel great. And I’ve lost a few pounds without even trying to.
The way America (and her children) eats needs to be changed…for the well being of all of us.
Thanks for posting this! The youtube videos aren’t working for me on their site, so I am glad that I was able to watch these on here. After hearing about the interview, I had been wanting to.
I don’t agree with Pollan or Oprah on everything, but I certainly appreciate them giving time and attention to the subject of what people put in their mouths. Sadly, this message of “real food” is one that many people have no clue about.
The “Auntie Oprah and Uncle Michael thing” made me laugh.
Oh darn! That posted twice! Sorry for cluttering up your comments section, Meghan. I would delete it if I could. : /
Woo-hoo Loved this Oprah show, too!
That’s funny. My Mom called too, and said almost the exact same thing. (Not that I should be on Oprah, but that the field of holistic medicine and nutrition is definitely up and coming, and that it’s basically like an AMEN to get into it right now.)
I took the kids out for lunch to Chipotle yesterday (a real treat since we rarely eat out). Do you all have those restaurants in Canada? Anyway, I asked the lady as we were checking out if they were busier now that they had been on Oprah (the founder, Steve Ells, was on the same show with Michael Pollan) and she had no clue about the Oprah show. Was a bit surprised. She just said they had been busier since people were snowed in and now could get out.
Funny! We don’t have them here but Josh and I went when he was working in Ohio in the fall. Sadly pepper proved a challenge as it always does.
