Do you know what would happen if you took some of the most powerful, nutrient dense, amazing foods available to us on this planet and rolled them all together? You get superhero-worthy balls.
This recipe was created based on an email I received from a participant in the 3-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse, wanting to know what else she could make with all the super-foods she had collected for the cleanse.
In addition to using Spirulina to turn your bread green and Hulk-like, an easy peezy solution is to roll all this goodness together into spoonfuls of power-packed nutrition. Icing on the cake, or cacao bean on the hemp seed as the case may be, is that they are the best tasting experiment I have come up with in ages. And they’re raw raw raw.
This uncooked raw food assemblage was inspired by a recipe in David Wolfe’s book, appropriately named Superfoods. You definitely don’t have to stick to my recipe as I definitely didn’t stick to his. Use the foods you have around.
My balls are slightly nutty tasting thanks to the hemp, a little sweet with the honey and goji, rich and smooth with the ground cacao and unrefined, cold pressed coconut oil, a touch salty with the sea salt and have a crispy, crunchiness with the chia seeds. The vanilla bean is simply gold and the spirulina, well, that carries the energy power of pure sunlight. Seriously, if a superhero had balls for a snack, these would be them…
If I were a superhero, I would be Bowel Betty, keeping people happy and healthy through regularity. Wait a second, I am very busy keeping people happy and healthy through regularity. Just call me Bowel Betty.
Now, as you whip up your Superhero Balls, finish this sentence: If I were a superhero, I would be________________, and my super-power would be___________________. (And post below if you like)
SuperHero’s Balls
Every ingredient in this recipe is optional. Try and stick with the proportions though to get the right consistency. Use what you have!

1/4 cup goji berries, ground
1/4 cup hemp seeds, ground or whole
2 Tbs coconut oil
2 Tbs raw honey or agave
2 Tbs Spirulina
1 Tbs Rice Bran (it should be the white and finely ground variety)
1 Tbs Chia Seeds
pinch of sea salt
inside of one vanilla bean or 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- Mix all ingredients together thoroughly
- Roll roughly 1 Tbs worth of mixture in balls
- Freeze for 15-20 minutes and enjoy!

Hi Meghan-
These balls sound delish – I just wanted to point out that you have chia seeds and rice bran listed twice.
Love your site!
I’d like to give these a go – no cooking, yay! Thanks Meghan.
You make me laugh – you are special to all of us out here in the web world for all that you do, not to forget ;o)
Good catch! Thanks.
Mmmm these look & sounds similar to some balls I got from http://superfoodsnacks.com/. I’ve been meaning to find a recipe to make my own, so thanks!
And do you just mix these, or can you put them in a food processor? I like a smoother consistency, but I’m not sure if it would work.
is cacao the same as cocoa? and i bought (on your advice) cacao nibs, but can’t figure what to do with them… they are so bitter! Help!
haha superhero balls! Love it! Hmm… let’s see….If I were a superhero, I would be_____happy ball maker_____, and my super-power would be_____to make people happy all the time!
LOVE the recipe (because I have tons of fun superfoods to use in smoothies that have been begging to be used in other recipes
and it’s RAW…hu-RAW for RAW
HMMMMMMM there are so many fun things to say about superhero life:
If I were a superhero, I would be ColorMeHappy Girl, and my super hero power would be adding color and smiles to the world.
some days a little smile and good cheer can make the BIGGEST difference in a crummy day!
last night I blew bubbles with baby because I needed a pick me up…he loved it too!
Happy Thursday (almost said Wednesday) better go make some super balls!
If I were a super hero I would be Organic girl and my super power would be that I would spread all natural goodness all over the world and turn all the fast food restaurants into apples and berries!!
These balls look sooo yummy Organic Girl will be whipping up a batch of these very soon!!
LOVE the shirt…givin’ props to Dirty Dancing! definitely going to give the balls a try. Thanks!
Betsy: I just mixed them by hand but I am sure you could whizz them together if you like. Let me know how they turn out for you.
elain: Cacao is raw. It is bitter because that is what chocolate tastes like without the sugar. I sprinkle the nips on oatmeal but you can also grind it down, which is what I did to make these balls. Add to baking, raw dishes and get used to it. Once you do- you’ll find it rich and delicious.
I love all your Superhero ideas! Ladies after my own colourful, sunshiny heart!
Rachel: Props to you for the first to notice the t-shirt. Awesome isn’t it?!?!
Liquid coconut oil. I totally get that and it’s driving me crazy!
I’m still trying to perfect that product that I have a business idea for but have found that my greatest challenge is coconut oil’s constantly changing viscosity. Coconut oil is perfect in every other way.
(Tried arrowroot starch as a thickener, but it leaves a residue.)
OHHHHHHH Dirty Dancing!
I get it! (I love that movie and I totally missed it!)
now that’s funny!
I’ve been visiting the site for a couple of weeks, and just love it! Your insight and refreshing attitude inspires me.
On to questions.
1) How long do they go in the freezer?
2)How do you store them?
3)How long do they last?
4) How many can/should (never ask could) you eat at one time?
I’m portionally-challenged, so like to know how many is considered a single portion.
Thanks again.
Loren:
1) How long do they go in the freezer? Min. 15 minutes.
2)How do you store them? Right now mine are in a glass food storage container in the freezer
3)How long do they last? Frozen? Indefinitely
4) How many can/should (never ask could) you eat at one time? One. They are rich and powerful. One is all you need.
I made these and LOVE them! I used oatbran (more than 1 T) and added a little bit of almond butter too. Yum!
Meghan,
I found this recipe on Kris Carr’s site, and these suckers are SOOOO freakin’ good! I had to add more coconut oil to make it work, and they turned out fab! Thanks for sharing this!
Jennifer

Hello. This is kind of an “unconventional” question , but have other visitors asked you how get the menu bar to look like you’ve got it? I also have a blog and am really looking to alter around the theme, however am scared to death to mess with it for fear of the search engines punishing me. I am very new to all of this …so i am just not positive exactly how to try to to it all yet. I’ll just keep working on it one day at a time Thanks for any help you can offer here
