fridgecropSince I couldn’t locate the photos I have of Vanessa sleeping naked, I had to use the adorable one of her sitting in her empty fridge.

Last Saturday, as part of Green Week, I reviewed the wonderfully hilarious memoir Sleeping Naked Is Green,  by world renowned (she really is)green author and naked sleeper Vanessa Farquharson. Cost of entry into the contest to win a signed copy of the book was simply to share the ways in which you have greened your kitchen love making (and I am talking about cooking… not the other kind).

There were lots of green tips offered, but I am only listing here the cooking/eating related ones. Here are some of the Simple Green Kitchen Tips that were offered:

  • Recycle as much as possible
  • Metal water bottles instead of plastic ones.
  • Reusable grocery bags.
  • Compost our kitchen scraps.
  • Treating greens like flowers and putting them in a vase of water
  • Use containers or just a regular bowl with a small plate on top, instead of plastic wrap.
  • Bar towels to replace paper towels
  • Glass containers instead of plastic.
  • Rent a room in to students and shared the fridge
  • Maintain a small a food garden
  • Built own compost bin
  • Scour recycling bins for large glass containers to be re-used instead of recycled
  • Wash all  fruits and veggies over a big bowl in the sink then pour that water onto our plants.
  • Reusable produce bags
  • Replace plastic wrap and ziploc bags with brown paper bags
  • Buy in bulk
  • Buy all  produce locally (lucky Californians!)
  • Becoming a vegan (or have a few meat free days/week)
  • Buying wheat cat litter instead of the mined clay litter
  • Cutting my coffee habit to one cup a day! (not sure how this is green but it gets health points)
  • Only air dry our laundry
  • Can tomatoes
  • Using mason jars for bulk goods
  • Washing clothes in cold water,
  • A worm bin for composting foods for organic garden
  • Givn up bottled water
  • Use a reusable ceramic container for takeout food in it.

  • No dishwasher
  • Growing my own herb garden.
  • Make own household cleaner, laundry soup, and dishwasher soap
