First things first- Congratulations to all of you who participated in the Green Smoothie Cleanse. How did it go down for you?
If you are transitioning out the same way you came in then today you stop blending all your veggies and can start eating them whole again. Tomorrow adding in some cooked foods. Take the transition easy!
I did my transition in while at the cottage with my family. To say that I have had a bit of an effect on the way my family eats would be an under statement. My sister-in-law Carly and I do most of the cooking when we are all together. My mom would rather do almost anything other than cook. Seriously. Saturday night we traded. I made dinner and she happily vacuumed and dusted my car. I’ll make that trade any day.
Though my family is not as extreme as I am in the eating department, they are open to trying new things and they definitely have their favourites. Our cottage has no running water so we keep our meals simple and lunch is always a variation of tossing leftovers onto some greens. Everyone is always happy creating their own salads. Families have these big ‘create your own pizza’ nights- what about salads?
The boys getting their salads ready (and yes- that’s my brother, don’t think you’ve met him yet)
This was what we had to choose from: mixed greens, arugula, veggie and chickpea falafel, rice wrap crisps (recipe to follow soon), roasted Brussels sprouts with pecans, snap peas, grated carrot, cucumber, sprouts (home made of course), cilantro pesto, grated carrot, avocado, tomato, pumpkin seeds and some chicken. Dressing was a homemade blend of flax oil, balsamic vinegar, mixed herbs and lemon juice.
Everyone was happy and we all ate exactly what we wanted, and perhaps most important when there is no running water- had very little clean-up.
Here is my work of art salad:
My brother Michael’s
And you know what made me happiest? That every one had at least one of my healthful, veggie protein filled vegetable and chickpea falafel’s. I have asked you before about your favourite pizza toppings? Any faves for salads?

Fave toppings for salads: big green olives, pumpkin seeds, matchstick carrots, raddichio and avocado.
Mmmm I am so having a big salad for dinner tonight! I love left over roasted veggies, grated beets, avacado, asparagus, hemp seed, tomato and raisins/currents
Olives, red pepper, and avocado are my faves!
OH those look so so so good!!!
I am having salad for lunch today…adding my leftover Japenese Pizza to it…I love hummus on salads!
and of course AVOCADO
humm My favorite salad toppers are walnuts, pumpkin seeds and a little goat cheese. Yum! I am a pretty simple salad girl. I just love spinach and argula in salads!
I got an email about this new movie coming out and I thought it would definitly interest you. You can watch the trailer at the link below: Enjoy!

Id like a little bit of tall-dark&handsome brother telpner in my salad!
Now those are some fun salads! I just adore avocado slices, almonds, and chickpeas in my salads, but falafel would be a great addition too.
That looks awesome! I envy your cottage.
How do you wash up at the cottage? I mean both dishes and yourselves. And is there no toilet? I’m all for rustic cottages (all wood, no drywall, no cable TV, basic comforts) but running water is a basic need for me! Or so I thought.
My non-vegetable/fruit add ins- but not necessarily all at once: Tuna, cheese (feta, goat, parmesan, old white cheddar), most legumes (not peanuts), almonds, pecans (especially toasted) and any seeds. Maybe some grain salad on top. I’ve never thought to add pesto or falafel. When I ate meat, chicken was a favourite. Embarrassed to admit this, but I went through a brief canned chicken phase.
Additional veggies and fruit that I like in my salad: Avocado, strawberries, sprouts, cucumber.
I want a salad right now and I’m one smoothie away from cleanse completion.
Sarah’s comment made me laugh. [Numerous attempts to explain why have been redacted as verbose and irrelevant.

Man those salads look so good! I can’t think of anything I wouldn’t put on a bed of greens. I have even warmed up leftover chili or spaghetti sauce and put it on top of a cold green salad.
Chili on salad rocks.
Love the salad line-up! I hate to admit it, but I’m not the biggest fan of salads. I tend to just eat mixed greens with dressing.
I sometimes will indulge in an organic-turkey-taco salad with all the fixin’s – so yummy.
Is there a recipe for the falafels?
TeachyGreen: There is a recipe for the falafels if you come to a cooking class
Sarah: Very funny!
canadianfoodiegirl: Fake meat? Don’t make me take your prize away from you!
AshleyH: I am very familiar with that movie and currently working on hosting a screening in Toronto. You should come!
What?? You know, if you added protein to salad you might become a bigger fan.
I forgot to include the following in my previous comment: Fake meat; the kind that Meghan isn’t into. Fake chicken burgers, fake meatballs, fake beef strips, fake chicken strips. Fake beef strips taste awesome on salad.
I believe that Food Inc. is now playing in Toronto. At the Varsity, maybe. I saw the trailer when I was at the Cumberland a week and a half ago. Was thinking months ago that I’d like to host a screening but didn’t have a reason for it other than hosting a screening.
I’m drinking more of my dinner smoothie right now, after a hot yoga/meditation class. I’ve discovered that if you put a clove of garlic in a smoothie, that’s pretty much all you’ll taste.
