Did you know that anything is possible? I am sure you did but sometimes we forget it. Some of you may think that going 3 days drinking only smoothies is an impossibility, but you are about to prove that idea wrong.

Yes my sweet Smoothie Cleansers, today is day 1 of the Green Smoothie Cleanse. I will be offering tips all day via twitter so check in over there.

For thousands of years, fasting and cleansing has been used for spiritual benefit. When we are not so weighed down with heavy food, we tend to feel lighter in both mind and body. Many people experience a sense of calm, joy and peace during the cleansing process. What this can do is free up a little bit of our ties to physical needs and focus a little more on what is going on in our minds. Toxic thoughts like anger, fear and worry can be washed away with green smoothies and good… um… movements. Eliminating these toxins from the body helps eliminate them from the mind. And what better time to make our dreams come true?

Since you don’t have to spend as much time cooking today, I imagine you’ve got a bit of free time on your hands and so I am going to do two things.

1. Tell you a story

2. Give you a creative little project that doesn’t involve cooking deliciously tempting food.

1. A Story
I hope you have taken a moment to read My Story about how I got here. One part that I left out was about how for my 25th birthday, when I was really sick, my mom had taken me to a resort in St. Lucia. I thought this was the greatest place I had ever been in my whole life. I was so miserable at my job in advertising that at one point over dinner, I made a comment to my mom that I needed to work out a way to work at a place like this. I was thinking maybe I could be the person who moved beach chairs around or fetched drinks for guests.

Fast forward three years, 19 doctors, 8 jobs, a disease diagnosis, 3 months dedicated to healing, a formal education to earn my certification as a nutritionist and voila! Upon graduating from nutrition school, I went down to St. Lucia to work as the resident nutritionist at that very same resort. Who would have thought?!?! The photos above were from my first day of work at the resort.

There was a little step in between. I created a Vision Board of how I wanted my career as a nutritionist to look. It was an assignment for one of my classes. I tore out a whole bunch of photos, typed up some of my favourite quotes, printed out a few photos and pasted it all down. When I sat back and looked at the board that I created, the only thing I could draw form it was that this vision of how I wanted my career to unfold looked like the best vacation ever. My first job was three months at a resort and this coming January I will be leading my first tropical retreat.

At the end of each day of work at the resort, this is what greeted me as I wound down with a cup of tea.

Most of this has come true (even that little reference in the middle to my my writing with the words ‘Making Love In the Kitchen’. This means it must be time to make a new one.  And that is what I am going to do  today, on Day 1 of the Green Smoothie Cleanse. Nothing like a little arts, crafts and daydreaming to fill an afternoon. And since these really do come true, this one is going to have a whole heap of men all over it!

2. The Project: Create Your Vision

  • Is it career focussed, family focussed, health focussed. finances, travel or your whole life rolled into one.
  • Get yourself a big bristol board or piece of cardboard
  • Grab a stack of magazines (preferably old ones you had around the house) amd start flipping and tearing
  • Look for pictures, words, phrases, colours, patterns… anything that resonates with you in a positive way.
  • You wish to add some quotes or affirmations  that inspire
  • Lay them all out and start sticking it down.

I keep mine hanging in my bathroom and I look at while I brush my teeth in the morning and in the evening. Can’t wait to see what I come up with today!

And if you are curious about the quotes I used, they are from my acupuncturist, meditation teacher, yoga teacher and one of my all time favourites from Sir William Osler:

“Courage and cheerfulness will not only carry you over the rough places in life, but will enable you to bring comfort and help to the weak-hearted and will console you in the sad hours”

What are some of the quotes that inspire you? What does your vision look like? Would love to know what you come up with!

Happy Visioning and Cleasning!

Off to make my vision board. As always, thanks for your inspiration.

  2. Cindy says:

    I agree…I think it’s just what I need too!
    Great Morning!

  3. Michelle says:

Love that last quote! Great vision board.

  4. Amanda Laird says:

This is the second time vision boards have come up in my life in the last week. I think it’s time to get out the glue stick!

  5. The Secret presents the vision board idea if I recall correctly. I’ve never actually done it. Maybe it’s time to start. It really is a good way to focus on goals and provides inspiration and reinforcement.

  6. The secret does talk about vision boards but not such a fan of the stress they put on money, cars, houses etc. If you ask me- the process is the outcome. Sure we all want a certain lifestyle but my vision board focusses on how I want that lifestyle to look and feel and how I intend on achieving it. I am sure I could make a fortune pushing supplements or selling ‘food’ like nutritional products… not how I roll. You know what I mean?
