greensmoothiecover-copyIt has been about two weeks since we did the Green Smoothie Cleanse together. Many people commented on the value they felt they received with the low cost of the tutorial I put together for this cleanse. I kept the costs low as my intention was to make this accessible to as many people as possible. The huge response I received made me realize how interested people are in empowering themselves to live a better life- easily and simply with some well intentioned guidance. My intention was just that- to open people up to new things, to realize how easy it can be to live a healthier life and hopefully encourage, through the experience, some of these recommendations to become habits. And to do so without promoting any gimicky brand of products or supplements- simply cleansing with good whole foods that are available to nearly everyone.

I can sing the praises of the benefits but what I think is even more effective is sharing some of what the participants wrote about it. I can tell you why its so good for us, but reading what other people experienced was really inspiring. I was reminded why I love my work so much.  Even though I know how good a healthy life is, I too need reminders of why I put so much effort into my health.

I wanted to share with you the inspiring words of some of the Green Smoothie Cleanse participants- post cleanse.

I have learned so many things in the past 6 days. For instance at one point today I thought I was really hungry, I just wanted to munch on something… instead of instantly grabbing for a snack, as I normally would… I stopped and thought about why I was hungry.

Was I truly hungry? Was I thirsty instead? Was I bored?

I realized I had not had very much to drink so I decided to have a glass of water. After the water I wasn’t hungry anymore. This revelation is a huge accomplishment for me.

Meghan is truly onto something when she talks about conscious eating. This one concept alone could change my life… I love food. I always will… I can’t deny that fact or try to change it. But I can change my relationship with food. How I eat, what I eat, how much I eat, and when I choose to eat... Read the full post

Cleansing is something I had never considered before. In fact, I thought people who took part in cleansing programs were a bit odd and granola-y. I guess I’m one of them now. Sign me up for my socks and Birkenstocks. I’m glad I did it though. It gave me something positive to think about when worries threatened to overwhelm me, and I feel a sense of accomplishment for having completed it..

There were people who thought I was nuts, but there were more who were curious about the program. I was able to sit with others who were eating without wanting to mug them for their food. I didn’t have as many cravings as I expected. Read more inspiring obersvations.

Just wanted to share a little because… We’re doing it again! Everyone keeps asking so I though we should. It will likely be the first weekend of June. Get your tutorials now if you haven’t yet and for those of you who have and haven’t used it- join the group come June. Of course, I encourage you to form your own groups with friends at work, in your school, community etc. Group support goes a long way.

I had extremely similar effects to the comments posted. It was really a wake-up call to how much food I actually need. Time when I thought I should be hungry, I realized I really wasn’t. And my empty tummy felt wonderful, especially first thing in the morning when it was uber-tight!

It also sort of set up boundaries for me diet-wise. I of course always try and choose healthy foods, but now I really feel that there are some foods that I just don’t eat….and they have become non-foods now. It’s the best way to avoid snaking on high fatty and highly processed foods…because if you stop recognizing something as food, you stop wanting to eat it! I’ve literally taken things like crackers, store bought breads (like Dempsters and Wonderbread) and highly process soy products (like Yves) out of my diet and am finding much more delicious ways of replacing them. Actually, it is unbelievable how little I miss these foods.

I think that doing a cleanse often will be a good thing for me. I must admit that I’m starting to slip back into bad habits (coffee everyday, drinking too much and after-bar food) and I want to stop! I keep reminded myself how great a felt post cleanse and I think that it is a great motivator not to let myself get too carried away.

I was only able to do a one day cleanse but even that has its benefits. I’m working on having one day per week where it’s green smoothies till dinner (and a raw dinner when I can). It’s empowering to dedicate energy and time to my overall health and well-being and having a weekly reminder of it is great. Thanks Meghan!

Meghan, I want to sign up for the next cleanse… already bought the tutorials :) I also recently got a VitaMix for my birthday — yippee! I have made a kale and pear smoothie, which my kids (10,8,4) all loved!!

    Two weeks later…

I’ve had two cups of coffee total since the cleanse. I was a cup-or-two-a-day gal prior to the cleanse.

My new snack food is ta-da-da-da-da A GREEN SMOOTHIE. I make an enormous (about 1 litre) one in the morning and carry it with me. I’ve been able to avoid most snack/craving urges, and feel that I’m making healthier food choices as a result.

I’m doing more yoga, and I am developing a meditation practice. I can’t imagine getting into the shower without body brushing first. (Note: prior to correction I had written “boy brushing”. An interesting adaptation…) Five minutes of dancing has also become part of my morning routine.

I will be traveling in June, so I won’t take part in that cleanse, but I know I will be trying it again in the near future. In the mean time I will pass on the info to those who were curious about the program when I was taking part.

  5. I might join in this time! I’m doing a cleanse this week and for the last week I’ve been consuming nothing but smoothies until lunch, and eating mostly raw until dinner. I guess I started the cleanse last week unofficially. Now I’m incorporating more raw food into dinner. And that Wild Rose Detox kit? Yep, the laxative has a laxative effect. I’m not sure if I’ll succeed on it for 12 days but I think I can do it for most of the days, even if it means the occasional off-cleanse meal.

Haven’t tried body brushing yet, but did try the enema after much searching for the apparatus (if I didn’t find it at the final store I was going to ask you where to get it). Did hot yoga yesterday. Really need to get back into meditation.

The fact that there’s a second Andrea commenting here is disorienting even though I’m logged in with my WordPress handle and not my name.

  6. Andrea- Great insights and thank you so much for sharing them. I encourage a weekly cleanse day. One day to do just the smoothies- as Amandamoo is aiming to do. But whatever is reasonable for you is great. Once a week- two days a month- three days a month. No harm can come from it and it helps keep you from slipping too far off track.

  7. Yay! It will be in June and will be confirming exact dates next week. Just have to make sure I’m not teaching cooking classes :)
