For those of you not quite sure if you are up for the cleanse challenge, I thought I would offer you some (green) food for thought. Here is the main reason we’ll be high dosing on the green foods during the Green Smoothie Cleanse.
Chlorophyll.
Chlorophyll is as close as we can get to eating sunlight! I know I sound nuts but think about. Chlorophyll is what runs through the veins of plants that reacts with the sun to create glucose- the primary source of fuel for our hot little bods. Having a little flash back to science class?
Chlorophyll is what makes plants green. And chlorophyll is like the plant’s blood. Chlorophyll is rich in magnesium, in a form very similar to how it is found in our own blood- our hemoglobin. The only difference between a chlorophyll molecule and that of our blood, is one central atom which is iron in blood and magnesium in chlorophyll. According to the men in the white lab coats, the body has the ability to convert chlorophyll to hemoglobin by changing just one little molecule of magnesium into iron. I know what you’re thinking and I am nodding my head along with you… diets rich in chlorophyll essentially flush and replenish our blood supply! Or perhaps I should say cleanse.
Additional therapeutic properties of chlorophyll include(and of course are not limited to):
-
Purifies the blood and (and therefore the cells that make up our sweet little bods), cleaning us of toxins.
-
Helps in Preventing cancer by removing toxic wastes.
-
Helps to detoxify the liver (and with over 300 metabolic processes, the liver needs all the help it can get)
-
Cleans the intestines (again- the bowel is the dirtiest place in the body, second place goes to the thyroid- amazing how so many people have pooping nd thyroid problems)
-
Combats anemia- that would be low iron in most cases.
-
Rejuvenating the body and who doesn’t want to feel youthful?
-
Immune booster
-
Fights inflammatory conditions like sinusitis, fluid buildup, and skin rashes thanks to its cleansing ability
-
Normalizes blood pressure
-
Eliminate molds in the body- helpful as we come to allergy season
-
Combating bad odors, bad breath and body odor thanks to the magnesium salts.

If you consume mad greens daily then there is no point to do a cleanse? Just wondering
i bleed green baby!
Was given the gift of kale plants today. Tra la la!
It’s funny because just this week my new family dr asked about my diet because i am a diabetic (Type 1), I explained my sugars have been great on my mostly vegan diet and she said “well, we have to check your iron because you’re not getting much if you aren’t eating meat”. I innocently said, “it’s funny because i used to have chronic anemia but since I changed my diet my iron has been great, even through pregnancy”. i didn’t bother telling her i get my iron from my morning green smoothies, since I could predict the reaction i would get!

Part of the benefit of the smoothie cleanse is that you get all these nutrient dense high fibre foods into your body, in a highly absorbable way, without using a whole lot of digestive energy- giving your system a little chance to rest. Consuming greens daily, which I always do, is very different from consuming MAINLY greens
Love that Michelle! As you can imagine, it has been tough for me to find a doctor that appreciates my getting iodine from seaweed
If only nutrition was taught in medical school and than maybe we could be prescribed nutrition instead of medicine.
I have never heard of any such contraindication. A client of mine had read that too much vitamin C could have an affect on birth control pills but I have never found research to substantiate this. And I have never come across any challenge with chlorophyll and any prescription meds.
