Last week I had a Guess The Ingredient List Contest to see who could guess the name of the product that was made up of this ridiculously long and synthetic list of ingredients:

ENRICHED FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR, NIACINAMIDE, REDUCED IRON, THIAMIN MONONITRATE [VITAMIN B1], RIBOFLAVIN [VITAMIN B2], FOLIC ACID), SUGAR, DEXTROSE, VEGETABLE OIL (SOYBEAN, PALM, COTTONSEED AND/OR HYDROGENATED COTTONSEED OIL† WITH TBHQ AND CITRIC ACID FOR FRESHNESS), CORN SYRUP, WHEY, CRACKER MEAL, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, COCOA, CONTAINS TWO PERCENT OR LESS OF CORNSTARCH, COCOA PROCESSED WITH ALKALI, SALT, LEAVENING (BAKING SODA, SODIUM ACID PYROPHOSPHATE, MONOCALCIUM PHOSPHATE), MODIFIED CORN STARCH, MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, SODIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE, GELATIN, DRIED EGG WHITES, DATEM, PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN OIL†, MODIFIED WHEAT STARCH, XANTHAN GUM, NATURAL VANILLA FLAVOR, CARAMEL COLOR, SOY LECITHIN, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE, COLOR ADDED, NIACINAMIDE, REDUCED IRON, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B6), RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2), THIAMIN HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B1), FOLIC ACID.

The prize for this contest, was  a bag of my brand new granola product called (appropriately) “My Favourite Granola”. The granola comes in two flavours, Toasted and Raw and is made with a very short list of wholesome, whole, nutrient dense, health supportive ingredients (that might include a dash of sunshine and a sprinkle of bliss).  The Raw flavour doesn’t mean you have to cook it. The ingredients were soaked and/or sprouted in filtered water and then slowly dehydrated in my Excalibur food dehydrator- making it crispy, crunchy, enzyme and protein powered.

The granola will soon be for sale on this site and on my professional site, but for now it is only available in contests and giveaways.

AND THE WINNER IS: The first correct answer came from Laurie. There were three individuals who answered correctly, though I am pretty sure the second two used their ever popular phone a friend named Google for help. So Coconutgal and Debi get honourable mentions (quicker on the draw next time ladies).

The correct answer was Pop Tarts, specifically the coco fudge variety and shockingly- people think this counts as breakfast food. (I shake my head with sadness and sorrow).

A new contest will be posted in the next couple days. Be quick, be ready, be healthy!

Thanks to everyone who ventured a guess.

  1. Laurie says:

Wooo hooo. It’s been years since I’ve won anything. Thanks Meghan. I’ll state here and now, I’ve never in my recollection actually eaten a Pop Tart. I think plastic fruit looks more like food than a Pop Tart. Not that I haven’t eaten other foods that are just as, ummm, unusual in their ingredients.

Thanks again. Looking forward to trying your granola.

  2. Great, now you have me wanting to buy a food dehydrator for my tiny kitchen. Thanks.

I was going to post my granola recipe today. It’s on the list of posts that have been brewing in my head for over a week.
The recipe isn’t really mine (it comes from The Oregonian newspaper) but I modified it.

I’d love to try yours. We could do a granola swap. :)

  3. Ricki says:

LUCKY WINNERS!! Your granola sounds awesome. And I do remember Pop Tarts from my youth. . . how I loved them back then!

  4. Coconutgal says:

Haha! Thanks for the mention. I worked hard!
That was fun, I am totally up for more research if you have another contest :-) Thanks girlie!

  5. Debi says:

thanks for the honourable mention!! you got me…i did use google. ;) although, i had already decided that it was breakfast food based on all the added synthetic vitamins. (why do they add those to sugar-filled breakfast foods? what’s the point??) funny, your delicious-looking granola probably has a similar amount of health-boosting vitamins (without fortification) and none of the nasty stuff! i noticed that it’s gluten-free, too, right?? woo hoo! i’m a fellow torontonian, so i’m really excited that you’re going to be selling what seems like an excellent breakfast food!

  6. That is so cool, congrats on your new product!
